The new daytime talk show, The Chew premiered on ABC last week, replacing All My Children after a 40-year run. As the culinary version of CBS’s The Doctors, The Chew is daytime authority on all things food. Each co-host brings to the table their own culinary expertise and unique personality in order to create a balanced and enlightening hour of television. It’s a fresh concept to chew on, huh? Let’s get to know the crew that brings food television to its last frontier.
Carla Hall, Bravo’s Top Chef star, specializes in southern comfort food and she still talks about Chicken Pot Pie on air. This Top Chef Fan Favorite often dances on set and zealously interacts with audience members. During her segment “Carla’s Gon Be Moments”, Hall says “It’s Gon Be OK!” as she rescues recipes gone wrong with helpful tips to transform kitchen disasters into Tom Colicchio approved dishes.

Michael Symon, usually on Food Network’s Iron Chef America and How to Cook like an Iron Chef, uses luxurious ingredients, with complex components that must impress the Chairman at Kitchen Stadium. But as intimidating as his 5-Star dishes appear, Symon is actually a wide-grinning, easy-going guy. During his segment “Michael’s Five in Five”, Symon creates quality meals with only five ingredients in five minutes for $5 per serving—a refreshing contrast to his usual gig. Every day he is calm, relaxed and wears plaid.

Mario Batali, a veteran Food Network Star, restaurateur and Iron Chef, is the legendary maestro of Italian cooking and the crew’s papa bear. The eldest and most experienced co-host, he often serves as mentor, but never fears to be sous chef. During his segment “Mario’s Simple Italian”, Batali shares his secrets to delicious and affordable Italian cooking.

Clinton Kelly, best known as TLC’s What Not to Wear co-host, brings the fabulous to the crew. Though he doesn’t actually cook, he gives valuable entertaining and decorating tips to enhance the dining experience. During his segment, “Clinton’s Pimp My Plate”, Kelly dresses up recipes, giving makeovers to boring dishes. As the moderator, he delivers news and trends from the food world that are“Just Plain Fabulous!”

Daphne Oz, Dr. Oz’s eldest daughter and healthy living expert, serves as the voice of reason for healthy choices. She is the most reserved among the crew, but when the pretty blond girl speaks, she gives valuable, spot-on health advice that could change your lifestyle; after all she is an Oz. Recently married and author of the 2006 bestseller, Dorm Room Diet, Oz is the perfect apprentice. In her segment “Daphne’s Things My Dad Taught Me”, she reveals Oz family tips and tricks for healthy living.
