Basic Apple Cider
Ingredients and Tools:
- Apples (Red Delicious for sweeter cider or Granny Smiths for tart cider)
- Paring knife
- Blender or food processor
- Cheese cloth
- Large pot
- Apple corer (optional)
- A sachet with a choice of spices: Cloves, Cinnamon and Nutmeg (optional)
How to:
Wash your fresh apples thoroughly. Core the apples with an apple corer. If you do not have a corer, use a knife to cut apples in half and carve out the core. Cut apples into quarters and place quarters into food processor or blender. Puree apples as finely as possible, the finer the puree, the more juice you’ll be able to extract. Stretch cheese cloth over a large pot and spread the puree over the cheese cloth. The cheese cloth will strain the apple juice from the apple solids. Once all the juice is collected, you may choose to place the pot over the stove and warm the cider with a sachet of spices.
