Wife, mommy to an 8 month old English Bulldog, full-time account manager and fashion blogger– Tanesha Awasthi is helping change the way girls look at and perceive fashion from a curvy girl’s perspective. Through her personal style blog Girl With Curves, Tanesha aims to “empower women through fashion and boost self-esteem through demonstrating that style comes in all sizes.” Check out her feature below!
iG: Where do you get your style inspiration?
TA: I’m inspired by fashion magazines, photography and traveling, but I mostly wear what appeals to my personal style: classics that I can re-work with my own twist on trends.
iG: What styles or pieces have been your summer wardrobe go-to this season?
TA: Right now, I’m loving tribal print trousers (never thought I’d wear a print pant!), bold color (which I love all the time, year-round), and flat sandals with metal hardware.
iG: What styles are you looking forward to wearing next fall? Any fave fall/winter collections you’re coveting?
TA: I love Fall in general, because I love layering, but I’m looking forward to wearing lots more color this Fall! As for collections I’m coveting, I’m a sucker for anything designed by Max and Lubov Azria, including their accessories coming-out this Fall, which are ethnic inspired (my personal favorite!)
iG: What’s the best advice you were ever given and how did that help shape you into the person you are today?
TA: My parents have always told me from a very young age, that I can do anything I put my mind to. I’m a Pisces, and we’re known for having big dreams- I certainly live-up to that personality trait! They’re always encouraging me to follow my dreams, no matter how big they are. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by an idea or project, I always hear their voices saying I can do it.
iG: What does inner glam mean to you?
TA: Inner glam means feeling great about yourself from the inside out. I truly believe that if you love and value yourself, that confidence will shine through for the world to see.
iG: If readers, particularly women, could only take one thing from your site, what would you want it to be?
TA: Feel great about yourself/love the skin you’re in!
iG: Why is it important to have a platform to discuss and/or showcase plus-size women’s fashion?
TA: I think there isn’t enough beauty diversity in the media, which has a great effect on how girls and women feel about themselves, when they don’t meet the standard of beauty portrayed in media. It’s important for women, especially young women, to see figures they can relate to, so they can feel a sense of belonging, and have positive body image and self-esteem. If I can be that role model for just one person, I’ve done what I’ve set out to do with GWC.
iG: I know you promote healthy body image, why is that important, especially today with some of the negative images still portrayed in the media?
TA: Body image is something that women have struggled with through history, and it shocks me that there aren’t more advocates for body diversity in media. It’s important to promote healthy body image, because the idealistic view of beauty in media is so narrow, yet women in society are so diverse.
iG: What’s next for Girl With Curves, what can readers look forward to?
TA: Many things, I hope! I hope to reach more women, spread the message, and continue helping others through fashion. I’d love to have my own clothing line one day, and create a non-profit that clothes girls and women in 3rd world countries.
