About a little over a week ago I made an appointment for a mani/pedi at Image Nails Salon. This small nail salon is located in the basement of Macy’s (called the Pedway) off of Randolph and State street in Downtown Chicago. I was hesitant to actually go through with this appointment after reading negative comment after negative comment on Yelp, but I had a voucher that expired at the end of the week that I need to make use of.
I was scheduled for a 10a appointment and upon entry was the first customer there. The place was clean and very orderly, and the women were very welcoming. I was treated to a relaxing thirty minute pedicure which consisted of a light massage from the nail tech and a full upper body massage from the massage chair. I then had a thirty minute manicure which also consisted of a light, moisturizing massage.
My nail tech Nancy (who I highly recommend) was very thorough. Being that I’m a fashion forward Glam Chick, I requested multiple colors on my nails and she did it without blinking an eye. I have short nails and did not want them all cut down evenly and she respected my request. She was gentle throughout the entire process and had a great attitude!
The entire experience was awesome, despite my earlier hesitations. The only ( and maybe biggest) issue was that there is little to no cell phone reception in this location. Because it’s in the basement and underground, you’re lucky if you even get one bar of service. For me (someone who’s glued to their phone on Twitter and Instagram) I was kind of disappointed. It’s not that big of an issue during the manicure, but for the pedicure I recommend bringing 30 minutes worth of good reading material.
Overall I give Image Nails a 3/4. If you’re downtown and want a relaxing, and affordable, mani/pedi I highly recommend this place. Be sure to call ahead to get an appointment and check their website for groupon vouchers. They do accomadate walk-ins, so if it’s a last minute pamper session this place will do for sure!
