So I did my first barre workout last week and boy did it surprise me! I have been working out religiously (at least 4-5 times a week) since December. The Glam & Fit series is back in full swing and it serves as a resource for motivation, tips and all things fitness related for iG readers. Every once in a while I want to incorporate my personal journey into the mix and thus we have my barre workout experience.
I decided to try a barre routine at home first since I had no idea what to expect. I found a roughly 14 minute routine on Livestrong Woman by Tone It Up. Halfway through the workout I’m doing fine, nothing hurts and the moves seem very simple. There were maybe two workouts where a felt a slight burn but overall I felt great. The barre instructor Renee Herlocker kept stressing that we were focusing on smaller muscles that most exercises don’t focus on. After the workout completed, I did some cardio and called it a night.
At 6 am the next morning I felt it. My legs were on fire! It hurt to walk, bend anything that needed the use of my legs caused pain. If you want to target small muscle groups then this is the way to go! I’m sure after continually doing this type of workout your body will adjust, but in the beginning… I do plan to try out an barre class. The Nike Training Center in Lincoln Park offers one so I might check it out.
Other than that my fitness journey has been pretty great. Once it turned cold I turned back to some bad habits and calculate that I gained about 10 pounds throughout the course of last year. So I’ve shed about half of that and I have lost a few inches as well. My next personal update will include pics and measurements. In the meantime I’d love to know how your fitness journey has becoming. Share your stories below and hopefully we can help each other to stay on track to lead a healthier and fit life! Until next time…
