Juicing is something that everyone says is good for you. You get the best vitamins and nutrients from the fruits and veggies used and it even acts as a meal replacement or cleanse. We should be consuming more cleaner foods than we are and this leads to health issues and weight gain.
This also plays a factor in how you lose your weight. While we can exercise and bust a sweat burning calories, losing that stubborn belly fat will come down to what you eat. Exercising is only about 20% of the factor, a major percentage is what you consume. Thus we have juicing. Everyone talks about the benefits and why we should juice, but you have to want to do it and make the change.
Juicing can be delicious, but some veggies and fruits have greater benefits than others. Leafy greens like spinach and kale are high in dietary fibers. They contain vitamins A, C and K, folic acid and potassium which promote healthy bones, skin and a better circulatory system. Lemons are great for adding to your juices because they act as a diuretic and which is good for your digestive tract. Apples help sweeten your juices, making a bland and not so great tasting green juice a little easier to drink. Apples are strong in flavanoids and polyphenols, which help detoxify the body; and malic acid which help maintain liver function and improve digestion.
While your juices can contain a variety of fruits and veggies, it’s all about what you like and how it will benefit you. It’s important to do your research and see what works for you. There are many online resources, documentaries and books on juicing. The documentary Fat, Sick and nearly dead is a great documentary which follows a guy whose life changes dramatically after going on a 60 day juicing cleanse. Check it out on Hulu here. Just replacing one meal a day with juice will reap many benefits. Try it out and be sure to share your recipes and experiences below and on our Facebook wall!
