SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
First off I just want to say that I feel like this season of television shows has been chock full of daddy issues… like every show. Let’s get into last night’s episode shall we?
So we start six months prior with a Moira warning everyone about The Glades and we’re taken to the prison where The Count is being held. Once the quake happened he escaped and we also see how The Dollmaker got out since The Count gave him the keys. Fast forward to present day and the trial for State vs Queen is in full swing. On they’re way into court Diggle is very sick so Oliver sends him home. Of course he heads to headquarters where he passes out, but thankfully Felicity is there.
Oliver heads back and Felicity tells him that she had test done on his blood and traces of Vertigo was found. Oliver has her give Diggle a dose of some concoction he made after his last encounter with The Count but it doesn’t work. Thea takes the stand and is cross examined by Adam Donner and he uses her waiting 5 months to visit her mother in jail against her, claiming that she couldn’t forgive her mother. During the cross-examination Donner passes out and is rushed away by an ambulance which was being driven by The Count.
After Thea’s testimony Moira’s lawyer decides that Moira needs to take the stand. During the live new cast The Count hijacks the airwaves and we see he’s with Donner. He tells everyone that the reason they’re sick is because they’re craving Vertigo. He makes Donner beg for the Vertigo shot and he does so The Count injects him. From a logo reflecting off of The Count’s eye in a still, Felicity is able to track where his location may be. Arrow goes there, but The Count knows about his “no kill” rule so he taunts him. Arrow just grabs Donner and leaves.
Since Donner is out Laurel takes over first chair and cross examines Moira. We learn that Moira did indeed have an affair with Malcolm Merlin. Laurel claimed that Moira didn’t fear for her life since she was able to convince Malcolm not to kill her second husband but Moira said that wasn’t true. Felicity and Diggle narrow down how Diggle may have gotten Vertigo in his system and tracked it to a mobile medical clinic administering “flu shots”. Felicity decides to go check the van since Diggle isn’t feeling too hot. While there she of course gets caught by The Count himself.

While waiting on the jury’s verdict Oliver receives a call from The Count telling him he has Felicity and he knows that Arrow is really Oliver. Oliver heads to Queen Consolidated and faces off with The Count who was upset about being drugged and thrown into a hole. He makes Oliver put down his bow and arrow threatening to inject Felicity with Vertigo. Oliver does what he asks but The Count decides to inject her anyway. Oliver without blinking picks up his arrow and fires three of them into The Count’s chest forcing him out the window and killing him. Mind you, this is Oliver’s first kill of the season which I was kind of excited about.
He heads back to court just in time to hear the jury’s verdict which found Moira not guilty of all charges to the surprise of everyone. While leaving the jail Moira’s driver takes her to what looks like an abandoned parking lot against her wishes. There she comes face to face with Malcolm Merlin who is somehow alive. He tells her that he pretty much knew people and had a hand in the jury’s verdict. He then tells her he’s returned because he knows that Thea is his daughter… say what?!
Some takeaways…
– During the flashback Oliver escapes his captives with some help from Shadow and … He brings Sarah along (bad idea) and Shadow has this arrow head that Dr. Ivo is looking for. On one side it has coordinates that lead to a submarine that apparently has something on it that will safe human kind.
– Loved the scene when Roy let Thea release her frustration by using him as a punching bag. Been hearing rumors about Thea possibly developing an alter ego… not sure how I feel about that.
– Alderman Sebastian Blood, remember him, was apparently in cahoots with The Count using him to kill Arrow, but we saw how that played out. We do see that one of the people he injected didn’t die and claimed to feel strong. Blood is obviously building a super army of some sort.
– Can we talk about this sexual tension/chemistry that kind of happened between Oliver and Felicity this episode? It kind of started last week but their exchange when Felicity apologizes for being the one to lead him to kill was priceless.
– As far as predictions, from the preview for part one of the mid-season finale we’ll get to meet Flash. Super excited about this because I’m pretty sure this is when Oliver and co find out about Blood’s soldiers AND could Flash possibly be a new love interest for Felicity?? Not really sure how this Moira/Merlin/Thea thing will play out but I honestly am not a fan of this storyline. Because of this, when Thea finds out I’m sure this will be a major factor as to what leads to her having an alter ego.
