SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
Welcome baaaaacccckkkk! Okay, enough of that. Can we talk about this amazing episode of Arrow; like I don’t even know if I’m completely composed for this, but shall we get into it?
This episode we get more answers about this idea that’s been floating around all season in regards to super humans or human weapons. We open with one of these super strong people breaking into a Queen’s facility and stealing a large quantity of chemicals. The police and Oliver and company show up at the scene the next day. The police believe it was a team of people who broke in, but only have video surveillance of one person.
Enter Barry Allen, the nerdy, tongue tied and kind of fidgety guy (sound familiar) who’s supposedly an investigator front Central City. We immediately get some chemistry play between him and Felicity, I mean, they’re practically the same person. Felicity invites him to Queen Consolidated so that they can work closely together on figuring out who this person (or people) is. Not fully trusting Barry, Oliver has Diggle do a background check on him to make sure he’s who he says he is.
Recap: Arrow Episode 207 ‘State vs Queen’
We get a smidgeon of Barry’s back story at this point. We learn that his mother was murdered and the killer was never found. We also learn that he is a big fan of The Hood. Oliver decides to throw a party for Moira’s return to prove that people were more accepting of her being out of jail. Moira is also threatened by Malcolm to tell Thea about him even though she insists it will ruin her.
Barry and Felicity track the truck the robber/human weapon escaped in to a blood bank where he stole huge amount of blood. Oliver takes off and tries to stop him, but this thing or weapon is pretty much unstoppable. Every blow I literally felt, like I don’t even know how Oliver survived, but he was able to get some of it’s blood from an arrow he stuck in his leg.
He has Felicity and Barry test it to track the sedative that was used in the human weapon cocktail. Meanwhile, Sin enlists Roy’s help to track down her friend who went missing. Brother Blood is notified of their search and they stage her friend’s body to make it look like an overdose. Roy takes a picture since he doesn’t believe he overdoses because of the blood coming from his eyes.
Oliver pays Felicity and Barry a visit and blows Barry’s cover, telling him he knows he’s just an assistant, he’s not authorized to be working the case and his father is the one in jail for killing his mother. Barry then tells them about what really happened with his mother. He says someone entered the house at an extremely fast speed, he couldn’t see the person but he knows it was a person. His father tried to fight it and the next thing he knew he was blocks away from his home. No one believed his story so he tracks cases that seem unbelievable with hopes of solving at least one of them. Tear, right? He’s later summoned back home by his boss who found out he lied so he leaves to catch the next train back home.
After Oliver failed welcome back party, Malcolm pays Moira a visit to see if she told Thea about him. She tells him she didn’t but she let the leader of the League of Assassins know that Malcolm is still alive and that she’s not afraid of him anymore. She then tells him to run, and he does. :))
Oliver tells Diggle and Felicity about what happened on the island with Dr. Ivo and how he created a serum to create super humans. He tells them that he’s killed these beings before and that Dr. Ivo is dead. He tells them that he’s going to take on this human weapon, but he gets a message from Roy. He meets Roy and Roy tells him about Sin’s friend. He shows him the picture and The Hood advises him to stay away. Roy gets gutsy and says he doesn’t need him and he has plenty of people to help him. The Hood swiftly gives Roy an arrow through the leg.
He then goes to a warehouse where the sedative was tracked to and comes face to face with the human weapon. This fight scene was so intense, like this thing threw Oliver around like he was a rag doll. Don’t get me wrong, Oliver/The Hood got in some shots but he was no match for this thing. The human weapon throws him into some shelves and Oliver ends up with multiple needles in his leg.
Diggle and Felicity race to the scene to find an unconscious Oliver. Felicity can’t read the name of the needles and Oliver’s heartbeat is too low. She decides there’s only one person who can help them. We cut to Barry running into the train station, late as usual, and he finds out he missed the last train that night back to Central City. He sits on the bench and soon ends up with a need in the neck. When he awakes he doesn’t know where he is but soon realizes when he spots the arrows. Barry literally goes through like 50 emotions when he soon after sees Felicity and then he see’s an unconscious Oliver on a table. We end with Felicity pleading for Barry to save her friend.
Some takeaways…
– During the island flashbacks, Oliver and crew find the submarine with the drugs that Dr. Ivo has been searching for. Slade’s health is deteriorating quickly. They decide to inject him with it. Sarah warns that without a sedative he’ll die. They tell Slade the consequences and he tells them to do it. Before they inject him, he confesses to Shado, in his own way, that he has feeling for her. He then tells Oliver to inject him and he has a negative reaction. Blood comes out of his eyes and he dies or passes out. Either way Dr. Ivo’s people show up and that’s it for the flashbacks for this episode.
– It’s finally confirmed that Malcolm is apart of the League of Assassins. He will for sure be back and there will definitely be more from the League of Assassins. I’m pretty sure we’ll see Sarah in the present day again as well.
– We know that at some point Roy will become Red Arrow. I do think Oliver is trying to mold/teach him but of course Roy is a little resistant. I don’t think his Red Arrow storyline will come into the second half of the season.
– I loved the addition of Barry Allen. He is the male Felicity. I loved their interactions and the music track they played during his scenes totally helped. We know that he will eventually become The Flash. He know who The Hood really is so I’m excited to see how this all plays out.
Next week is the mid-season finale! I’m can’t wait because from the previews it’s going to be good. I’m scared to see how they leave us for this break.
