SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
This episode was all about the Lances and I was okay with that. We even, sort of kind of, got to learn a little about how Sara joined the League of Assassins. Let’s get into this week’s recap shall we?
We kick off this episode with at an airport. A lady (later revealed as Nyssa) is trying to get through customs. They attendant tells her the computer is frozen after trying to run her name and leaves. Next thing we see are police trying to arrest her but she takes every single one of them down and just leaves like nothing happened.
The Queen family, along with Walter and the campaign manager I’m guessing, are gathered having a meeting about Moira running for mayor. Felicity pulls Walter aside and tells him about an account, Tempest, he had her track before recently had activity and money was moved. He tells her not to worry about it and he’ll talk to Moira about it.
Laurel is in the hospital from an apparent overdose. Both her mother and father are there, and Quentin (Officer Lance) calls Oliver to join them. She tells her father that she that saw Sara, but that she just thought it was a hallucination. Sara is at the Arrow lair pulling bars when Oliver gets a call from Officer Lance. He tells him that he knows Sara is there and that he wants to talk to her. He meets her at a restaurant and tries to convince her to stay. She’s firm in her decision about leaving and he tells her she can’t keep just showing up when one of them is in trouble.
As she’s leaving the restaurant a person glides down a long scarf and drops to her feet with a knife in her hand. Oliver is watching in the shadows and gets his arrow ready to shoot, but the woman, who has unmasked herself, passionately kisses Sara.
We find out that the woman is Nyssa, the daughter or Ra’s al Ghul. She’s come to get Sara because she made an oath to the League of Assassins. We also find out that she rescued Sara and they developed a romantic relationship, but Sara confesses to not loving her anymore. She is ordered to bring Sara back dead or alive but can’t bring herself to kill her.
Felicity confronts Moira about the activity on her account and how the money went to pay the doctor who delivered Thea. She tells her that she pretty much put two and two together and knows Malcolm is her real father. She tells her to tell Oliver or she will, but Moira tells her she won’t because Oliver won’t just hate her but she’ll hate him too.
After meeting with Nyssa, Sara returns to the lair and tells Oliver that the League will never let her go. Diggle returns with the results of Laurel’s blood tests and tells them that snake venom was found in her system not drugs. Sara freaks out because it’s obvious that the league is targeting her family to draw her in.
At the hospital, Laurel’s mother, Dinah, leaves the room to get a snake and is put to sleep by an unnamed guy. He, along with Nyssa, throw her in a van and attempt to drive off but their windows shatter from Sara’s canary device. She and Oliver chase them but they barely escape.
They go to Quentin to tell him that they’re going to find Dinah. Sara gets a call from Nyssa who is holding her mother as ransom for Sara’s return. She gives Sara 24 hours to surrender. They track down a warehouse where they could possibly and meet up there.but the unnamed guy comes flying down a rope and it’s a three way match between him, Sara and Oliver. Quentin hits him with one punch and he falls out, but before they can get any answers out of him he drinks snake venom and dies.
At the announcement for Moira’s campaign Oliver can tell something is wrong with Felicity. He asks her what’s wrong and she tells him briefly about her family, how her mother is just her mother and how her father left them. She tells him she’s afraid of losing someone she really cares about again. Oliver insists that she won’t lose him and asks if it has to do with her family She tells him it doesn’t. We don’t see her tell him about his mother’s secret, but he clearly knows when he’s called to the podium to introduce his mother. It takes him a minute to get his bearings, but he doesn’t say anything negative about her, but Moira knows Felicity told him.
Meanwhile, Nyssa calls Sara and tells her her time is up. She calls her father to meet him to get her mother, but tells him not to tell Arrow. When Oliver and company return the find that Sara has left and taken the venom. He has Felicity track her thinking that she’s going to kill Nyssa. He tells Diggle they have to stop her because if she does Ra’s al Ghul will come after all of them.
At the location, Quentin and Sara enter and Dinah is released to her father. Sara tells him to get her out of there even though Dinah is shocked to see that Sara is still alive. Once they leave, Sara collapses and it’s revealed that she drank the venom. Nyssa gets pissed as Quentin runs back in to try to save Sara and she tells her that since she wants to be with her family so bad they could join her. As she’s about to kill them Oliver shows up just in time and a fight scene ensues. He finally gets her in a choke hold but Sara tells him not to kill her. She collapses and Oliver runs to her and gives her his special potion. She comes back and Nyssa releases her in the name of her father.
The police show up, along with Laurel, who is shocked to see that her sister is actually alive. Oliver goes to talk to his mother who tries to explain herself but he tells her he’s over her lies. He tells her that he’s completely done with her and will only keep up appearances for her campaign. Meanwhile, Laurel goes ballistic on Sara, blaming her for their parent’s divorce and the devastation they went through. She tells her to leave and throws her wine bottle at the door as she’s leaving.
Slade finds out about Moira’s campaign and tells Sebastian not to worry about it, he’ll take care of it. Sara returns to the lair to find Oliver beating a punching bag. They share few words and after asking “what now” Sara responds with “She’s home” and they start making out.
Some takeaways…
– My biggest question throughout this entire episode was “Where is Roy?” He has such a major episode last week that it’s kind of hard to believe that he’d just disappear, especially know Thea would need his support during her mother’s campaign announcement.
– The flashbacks focused on the Lances six years ago. We got to see a little bit of they’re relationship prior to the boating accident. We also see how Officer Lance and Laurel found out about the boat accident, and then how they found out she was on the boat. Moira came over and told them that she’d been added as a guest by Oliver last minute so she too was unaccounted for.
– So Sara is back… for good. I don’t know exactly how I feel about this. Yes I love when she and Oliver team up to fight the bad guys but I don’t think I really want to see this physical relationship between them that was hinted at at the end. I am interested in seeing how her relationship with Laurel develops since Laurel pretty much hates her guts.
– I feel like Slade is going to reveal that he’s alive to Oliver. Not sure when this will happen, but it will be soon. Can’t wait for that.
– So are we keeping track on how powerfully amazing Team Arrow is shaping up to be? We have the intelligence of Felicity, the combat/tracking skills of Diggle, Oliver who is bad ass in everything he does, the super powerful Roy and know the kickass Sara aka Canary. Yup, I am looking forward to the episode when they ALL team up. Like I’m literally hyperventilating thinking about it.
