SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So about last night’s episode… I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. The fact that this is only the second episode and they’ve managed to surpass the first episode… and we’re only halfway through the second half of the season… and the first season was amazing… Let’s just get into the recap and you’ll see for yourself.
We open up with an understandably shocked Oliver standing face to face with Slade… who he thought was dead. Oliver face is priceless, it looked like he had a mini heart attack/panic attack all at the same time. Moira, who has no idea about what’s going on between the two, is carrying on about how wonderful a person Slade is. They toast their new business relationship with some good old Australian whiskey.
We’re taken back to the island with an opening scene of Oliver conditioning shooting arrows and his famous bar (or tree branch) pull ups). Oliver, Sara and Slade are planing to takeover Ivo’s freighter. Sara warns Oliver that he has to kill Ivo once he sees him, because if given the chance he will try to turn Shado’s death around on him. Oliver tells her he can’t kill him in cold blood.
The following day the trio stand on a mountain as Oliver lights a wood pit with a a fiery arrow to alert Ivo’s freighter. When the men get to the beach Oliver runs, but trips and is taken to the freighter. Strapped to a chair, Ivo gives him a shot of Truth Serum. Thankfully, Sara called that he would use it and had Oliver take a concoction that would counter the serum. Acting like he was under the influence of the serum, he tells Ivo that Sara and Slade are on the freighter in the engine room.
Once they vacate Slade and Sara parachute onto the freighter. They release the prisoners and there’s pretty much chaos. Oliver finds Ivo at the front of the freighter and blows open the door. Ivo, who’s on the phone talking to his wife who tells him he pretty much doesn’t exist, is knocked down. Oliver pulls up his arrow, but of course Ivo starts running his mouth twisting the truth about how he didn’t kill Shado, he just loaded the gun and pointed it but Oliver pulled the trigger. He told him that Oliver probably blames himself and is trying to put the blame on him, but Oliver tells him that that doesn’t mean he won’t shoot him. Ivo tells him that may be true, but what will he do. Oliver turns and finds Slade at the entrance and he’s obviously heard everything.
Slade throws Oliver across that room, as Ivo discreetly escapes, knocking into the navigation system which turns the boat. Everything goes flying and Oliver is able to escape. He finds Sara with two of the captives he befriended and they decide to get off the boat since there’s a major shootout taking place.
They each start jumping over the side of the freighter, but as Oliver jumps off Slade catches his foot in mid air and yanks him back on. Slade punches the mess out of him then throws him in one of the cells. After killing the captain of the freighter he takes over control of the freighter. He brings out Ivo and gives him a gun, telling him to show him how he killed Shado by making Oliver the target. Oliver tries to tell Slade that the drug is clouding his judgement but Slade demands Ivo show him how he killed Shado. Ivo starts freaking out and tries to talk his way out of it, but Slade chops his entire hand off in one swoop.
Oliver tells Slade that he should’ve just killed him. Slade tells him, or rather promises, that he can’t die until he’s suffered like he’s suffered and had complete despair… then he’ll die.
Back in the present, Oliver pretty much demands that him and his mother talk and Slade leave. Moira leaves the room and Oliver attempts to stab Slade, but Slade is quicker and catches his wrist telling him their fight will have to wait because he still has to meet the rest of his family just as Thea walks in.
Ignoring Oliver’s protest and anger, Moira and Thea take Slade on a house tour with Oliver close behind. Oliver discreetly dials Felicity’s cell phone as Felicity and Diggle are entering the lair and Sara is helping Roy with arrow training. Thinking Oliver butt dialed her, she puts the phone on speaker. Sara immediately recognizes Slade’s voice and tells them that they have to help the Queens or Slade will kill them.
They immediately jump into action and she tells them that Slade has the Mirakuru in his system. Roy tells her he does too and she asks if she can trust him and he says she can. The crew arrives at the Queens residence, the plan is for Roy to get Moira and Thea away. He enters, shakes Slade’s hand and I’m pretty sure Slade realizes at that moment that Roy has the Mirakuru in him. Sara appears and Oliver asks Slade what he wants to do next. Slade decides to leave and Sara tells Oliver Diggle is outside ready to shoot Slade.
Oliver walks him out the door, but Diggle is knocked out by an unidentified person. Slade tells Oliver that Diggle won’t be taking the shot at his head and Oliver asks what he wants. He tells him that the promise he made on the island is the one he’s come to fulfill.
Moira tells Oliver not to come back to the house if he’s going to continue to treat her the way he as. As Oliver leaves, we see Slade sitting in his office watching live footage of the Queen residence and find out that he bugged the entire house while on the tour.
Some takeaways…
– It was a slow build up but once we got to the nitty gritty I just felt all of this extra adrenaline pumping. Loved seeing them team together to try to bring Slade down.
– From the previews for the next episode and the extended preview (on our Facebook page) I’m thinking that they’re going to try to recruit some past villains. If so, when we get to the actual showdown it’s going to be amazing.
– I’m pretty sure that we’re not going to see the showdown until the season finale or they might split it into the last two episodes. I’m pretty sure Slade will die… for good this time, but I have an inkling that someone on Team Arrow might die as well; possibly Sara.
