SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So this was an action packed and intense episode, especially after seeing what’s to come next week. Black Canary and Huntress facing off made for some really great TV. Read the recap below!
We start this episode off strong with a very badass fight scene. Officer Lance and his team of officers are going in to take down Bertanelli and a group of men. They get some back up from Arrow and Black Canary. Sara gets upset when one of the men shoots her father. She tosses him out of the window when Oliver comes face to face with Bertanelli. He tells Officer Lance and team Arrow that this means Helena is probably on her way back into Starling City.
Felicity tracks her down to a rental car and Oliver, Sara and Roy go to intercept it. It ends up being a decoy and Roy gets shot in the hand making his temper rise. Oliver talks him out of it, but back at the lair he asks Roy to stop seeing Thea because he can’t control his anger. He tries to break up with her but she won’t let him so he decides to make out with another girl. Thea catches him and gets upset breaking the bracelet that he gave her.
Laurel is asked to come back to the DA’s office to prosecute Bertanelli not knowing the entire thing is a set up orchestrated by Adam Donner. It’s announced live on television and Oliver goes to the hearing to make sure Helena doesn’t hurt her pretty much demanding that Sara stays behind. When he gets there, everything goes awry because the feds were using Bertanelli as a trap to get Helena. Helena has a bunch of men working for her and there’s a big shootout. Oliver gets Laurel out of the crossfire and then gets Bertanelli out of the building, but Helena’s men take hostages.
Freaking out, Officer Lance punches Adam for getting Laurel entangled in their scheme. He calls Arrow while Oliver is standing right next to him. Oliver plays it off and Officer Lance tells Arrow about what’s going on. Oliver calls back to the lair looking for Sara but she’s already left. Laurel is running around trying to find somewhere to hide. She comes face to face with one of Helena’s men and he tries to kill her but he’s stopped by Sara. Sara tries to get Laurel out of the building but she won’t leave without saving the hostages.
Sara tries to take on Helena by herself but gets pushed out of the window leaving Laurel behind. Helena takes Laurel as a hostage and tells Oliver she’ll let her go if he does a trade; her father for Laurel. Sara and Oliver work with Officer Lance to get Mr. Bertanelli out of the police station. Oliver calls and tells Helena they have her father while Laurel tries to use her story of how she coped with Tommy’s death as a way to talk Helena out of it. Helena doesn’t budge and escapes holding Laurel at gunpoint just as the SWAT team comes into the building.
They meet to make the trade off but the officer in charge of the SWAT team (don’t remember his name so we’ll all him DIC) is made aware of their location thanks to Laurel’s cellphone so he goes to the location himself. Oliver is trying to talk Helena out of killing her father as her father is trying to get her out of it with memories. DIC comes out of nowhere shooting. Everyone runs for cover leaving Helena and Sara who start to fight each other. Meanwhile, DIC is about to shoot Oliver but Officer Lance knocks him out. Sara gets Helena in a choke hold and is about to kill her but Laurel runs out telling her not to; that she’s not a killer.
Sara let’s her go but Helena notices her father lying in a pool of blood and freaks out because she wasn’t the one to kill him. Officer Lance takes her away in handcuffs. Oliver talks to Helena and she tells him that he was right and that she doesn’t feel any better knowing her father is dead. Oliver also tells her that he was wrong to think that he could help her when he was a killer and needed help himself.
Laurel finds out that she was setup by Adam and that she really doesn’t have a place a the DA office. Laurel pretty much blackmails Kate telling her that she will get her job back or she’ll tell the news about the setup crediting her new attitude to words spoken to her by Helena.
Oliver finds Thea crying and she tells him about how she found Roy making out with someone else. She tells him that she’s sick of everyone lying to her and that he’s the only one who never lies to her. While leaving to go home, a car stops by her and it’s Slade offering to give her a ride.
Some takeaways…
– We get some flashbacks of the island where we see that Slade can’t leave because the boat is in bad shape. He gets in contact with Sara and threatens to kill Oliver unless he gets Hendricks. Hendricks doesn’t want to go and in a standoff he’s knocked out and tied up. Sara tells Slade they have a deal.
– Team Arrow is pretty legit. Love seeing Roy working with the team more and his struggle with his new found strength. Interested to see how this plays out because he did crush something after his breakup with Thea.
– Next week is going to be amazing. Slade is certified cray and is holding Thea hostage so you know Oliver is going to go bonkers. Next week’s episode is titled Deathstroke which is the name of the person that Waller told Oliver about in the previous episode. Ish is about to get really real.
