SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So uh… yea. Like I’m not even going to waste time with a witty intro, let’s just get into this crazy episode which is sort of like part one of the season finale.
So we open up at OPA with Olivia, Jake, Fitz and Cyrus trying to figure out what to do about Maya and the bomb threat since B613 has been shut down. As they’re talking the rest of the gang is trying to eavesdrop. Cyrus and Fitz come to the conclusion that there’s only one person who could possibly bring down Maya, most importantly, Dominic so they call in Rowan.
Immediately there’s tension. Fitz tells Rowan that this doesn’t mean that he’s back as Command and Jake and Rowan keep going at each other’s heads so Rowan wants him to leave. Olivia sides with her father and Jake gets upset and leaves. As he leaves he tells her that Rowan is playing the role as his father but he’s really evil. Rowan taught him how to be cruel and he tells her not to call him when things go south. He tells her that once the mask comes off she better run.
Another group having issues seeing eye to eye is Huck, Charlie and Quinn or Robin as Charlie so affectionately calls her. The guys each have their own theories for tracking down Dominic. Quinn thinks that they’re both good ideas but Charlie wanted her to side with him.
Senator Hightower has passed of a heart attack and Fitz wants to do the eulogy but Olivia has him on lock down at the White House because she doesn’t want him to die. He’s also anxious about the election and wants to be out there getting votes since he never really actually won the first election. Olivia assures him that everything will work out and he agrees to stay put at the White House. Olivia sets the White House up as a virtual campaign hub so that Fitz can do his “in-person” interviews from the Oval Office.
Huck has tracked down Dominic and he and Rowan try to get answers out of him with Rowan giving Huck the okay to go all Huck on him. While trying to get answers Rowan gets a call from Leo asking him to get something with the president’s DNA on it. Olivia asks him who he’s talking to and he tells her while also telling her that he’s no longer working with Leo and tells her what Leo wants.
Olivia goes to Mellie to get answers thinking that she’s hiding that Andrew is Little Jerry’s father. Mellie is a drunken mess and goes on about how she wants Fitz to burn and she’s tired of carrying the cross; she made him president. She then let’s it slip that it’s Big Jerry who might be Little Jerry’s father. She then asks Olivia to clean it up because she owes her.
David walks into his office to find a not so happy Jake. Jake tells him that he was supposed to follow his orders and keep his mouth shut, but he instead helped shut down B613. He tells him that if he doesn’t want to die then he’s going to help him find Maya and a very scared David agrees to help.
Meanwhile, back at OPA which is now sort of like OPA-B613… Huck is trying to get answers out of Dominic with no avail. He tells Rowan and Rowan decides to play Russian Roulette with a gun and one bullet after letting an insistent Olivia know that Dominic was the only man Maya ever loved.
He makes Dominic call Maya so that Huck can tace the call and he tells her that he will kill Dominic. Maya gets under Rowan’s skin, as usual, and hangs up telling Dominic goodbye before Huck can trace the call. Rowan makes everyone get out of the room and Olivia urges him not to kill him but he does anyway.
Rowan has Abby get a strand of Dominic’s hair and he sends it to Leo claiming that it’s Fitz and has Abby pay the DNA clinic to lie and say that the DNA matched Little Jerry’s to get him and Sally off of that lead.
Meanwhile, Olivia is distraught and calls Jake who tells her that he felt something the night they were together and he knows she felt something too. She tells him what happened at the office and that her mother had the chance to save the man she loved and she didn’t. That means she doesn’t love anyone. She tells him that she loves Fitz and she did feel something, but it also felt like betrayal. He tells her that’s a first step and she tells him goodbye and hangs up.
Fitz is losing votes, especially in Defiance, Ohio and goes against Olivia’s orders and goes there for a rally. Olivia tells her father that he didn’t have to kill Dominic because her mother didn’t save him so she didn’t love him; she’s not capable of loving anyone. She calls Cyrus to update him and hears the chopper in the background and he tells her that he tried to stop Fitz but he was persistent. Rowan tells Olivia to go to the rally too, because there is one person her mother loves and that’s her. Olivia goes and they’re all sitting on the stage as it’s being televised, but back at OPA a lot is going on…
Quinn has returned after leaving a quarreling Charlie and Huck to dispose of Dominic’s body alone. When she returns she’s met by Huck who tells her that she should not have gone alone. Quinn asks him what he really wants and it then turns into the weirdest, most uncomfortable make out/sex scene in the garage. As they’re doing they’re deed someone passes them and enters OPA.
The person walks into the conference room where Rowan is and we see it’s Maya demanding that he get her baby (Olivia) home. Rowan calls Olivia and tells her that she needs to get out of there because the bomb is still set to go off. They evacuate the building claiming it’s for a water leak and Olivia returns to find Rowan bleeding and barely moving. At this time Huck and Quinn enter and a very distraught Olivia tells them that she’s called the police.
Somewhere else in the city, Harrison is being held by gunpoint by Adnan who won’t let him leave or call anyone. Why he was sent there alone I have no idea. She tells him that their plan was never to blow up defiance and that their plan was working out the way they wanted it to.
Jake calls Cyrus because he and David have figured out one of Maya’s last locations. He tells Cyrus that Senator Hightower didn’t have a heart attack, but that Maya killed him so that there would be a funeral knowing that Fitz would be there to give the eulogy and that’s where she planted the bomb.
He tells him to make sure Fitz stays in the White House and to evacuate the funeral. Cyrus does the opposite after making sure that Sally was still giving the eulogy. We then get a sequence of scenes where we see that not only is Sally at the funeral site, but Leo and Andrew. We also see Mellie read the results of the paternity test and we end the scene with Maya activating the bomb and the countdown beginning.
Some takeaways…
– So if you listened to this week’s Glam DEETS podcast then you know that my predictions for the final episodes were 50/50. I knew Fitz wouldn’t get blown up, I just didn’t know that the bomb storyline would go into two episodes. I also said that someone else was going to die but that it wouldn’t be a main main character… well I take that back. While three possible non main characters are most likely going to die, there’s also the possibility that Rowan and/or Harrison might die as well.
– Not feeling Harrison dying at all. We STILL have not gotten his whole back story and to kill him now, to me at least, would be a cop out. I’m going to say that he’s not going to die, but if he does there will be a lot of angry fans… I’m just saying.
– I don’t know if Rowan is going to die. I honestly didn’t think that he’d be around this long so to get to this point I’m now I’m kind of on the fence. Y’all know how much I love my Rowan/Eli (and Jake) monologues so I honestly don’t know, they could go either way with this one.
– Quinn and Huck… I have no words. I am all the way done. I have watched a lot of television in my lifetime and I’ve seen a lot of uncomfortable things– but I have never felt as uncomfortable as I felt during their sex scene. Mind you, I watched this episode alone and I still felt beyond uncomfortable. I don’t know where they’re going with these two but I do know that it will be one weird ride.
– I’m not sure if I said this before, but I do think that Fitz will find out about Mellie and Big Jerry. From next week’s preview it looks like she just might tell him and I really want her to. Mellie was out of control this entire episode and when a character gets to that high of a point they have to break. She didn’t really reach her break when she let the Jerry thing slip with Olivia because she was still hitting that bottle. So I definitely think she’s going to reach that point in the finale and it’s going to be a huge domino effect.
– Cyrus is cold blooded, that is all.
– I so want Olivia to get over Fitz, but unless something brings him and Mellie closer, that won’t happen. I would love to see her put her energy into Jake, who by the way has been inching his way up into one of my favorite people on this show. Him and Abby seem to be the only ones with some common sense. I don’t know, I just know that next week is going to be amazing and I’m kind of scared to see what the aftermath will be.
