SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
It was the moment we all were waiting for… that sort of kind of happened. Let’s just get into this week’s recap below.
David returns to their hideout to find Victoria just returning herself and neither one knows where Charlotte is. He tells Victoria that he snuck into Emily Thorne’s house the night before, that he came close to killing her but he didn’t. Victoria wants to know if Emily saw him but he insists no one did. She tells him that he needs to be careful because once everyone knows he’s alive they’ll want to know where he’s been and he doesn’t have a an explanation. She manipulates him and tells him that she only wants the life he promised her years ago and she’ll take care of Emily… and he agrees.
Nolan goes against Emily’s wishes and reports the break in so Jack and Ben show up at her house. The situations is escalated to aggravated assault so Emily has to fill out a report. Meanwhile, David finds a note from Victoria saying she’s in the city and grabs a chain and starts whacking himself on the back (totally cray).
Daniel pays Margaux a visit and she tells him about the loan she gave Victoria. He apologizes for her being in an awkward position, but she tells him it was a power move and now Victoria will owe her. He tells her about his meeting with Louise Ellis and how much he needs for this to work because he’s pretty much starting from scratch.
Emily gives Jack and Ben her statement and Nolan takes Ben to see where the intruder jumped out of the window. While alone, Jack tells Emily that if this is in anyway related to Charlotte it’s murder for hire and he can’t stand by and just let it go. He tells her that she can’t make the people she loves change even if it’s for good. He then tells her that is it’s actually tied to Victoria then they can take her down legitimately and maybe save Charlotte. He asks her to just let him do his job and if Victoria shows up hurt or worse he will arrest her.
Victoria is at Charlotte’s apartment waiting for her to question her about why she’s been having her (Victoria’s) Xanax refilled. Charlotte tells her that she’s not taking the pills, she did just find out who Emily really is and that her father is still alive. She tells Victoria that she didn’t expect for her first time meeting her father to be clouded by her trying to get back at Emily. She asks her what she really wants and Victoria tells her she just wants to see her happy, but Charlotte believes she’s lying. She tells her that she wants a relationship with her father but not if Victoria will be controlling it. Victoria tells her to stop playing the victim and if she wants a relationship with her father, fight for it.
Jack asks Ben about seeing her the day before. He tells him that she didn’t seem happy to see him then but that he’ll have a couple of patrol cars drive by her residence to give her piece of mind. Jack asks him if he’s just trying to impress her but he tells him that if he wanted to ask Emily out he would. He asks Jack if he has a problem with that and Jack tells him that he’s just trying to uncomplicate (totally not a word, but that’s what he said) things with her.
David goes to a convenience store and blatantly steals something but two cops are there and arrest him. He’s taken into the police station and Ben notices his limp. He thinks he may be the one who broke into Emily’s house and leaves Emily a message to come to the station.
Victoria meets with Daniel to offer financial support. He asks her where she got it from and she lies telling him it was hidden by Conrad. Daniel bursts her bubble and lets her know that he knows Margaux gave her a loan. He tells her that she’s not Margaux’s family and that this was just a silver lining in Paschal’s death. She tells him not to speak ill of him again and Daniel tells her that he’s the patriarch of the family and can say what she wants, before returning the money and telling her to stay away from Margaux and Charlotte.
At the station Jack is prepping the lineup. As the inmates are lining up Jack immediately recognizes David and tells the guard to file them out. He leaves to call Emily but he’s stopped by the chief of police who wants to get the break in solved before it causes panic in the community. Emily goes to the station to view a lineup that includes David to see if she recognizes anyone as the intruder at her house. Emily and Ben walk in on Jack talking to the chief and he tells Ben that he needs to talk to her alone. Ben tells him that it’s against protocol since he’s already prepped the lineup and it can be tossed at trial.
Emily goes in to ID the suspect, when the lineup comes in she immediately recognizes David. She calls out his number and they have him step forward. She walks to the glass and starts crying. Ben asks her if she’s ready to make an ID and she tells him that she doesn’t recognize anyone.
At the pool, Louise Ellis is being a little forward in pursuit to try to get to Daniel. They discuss her portfolio and he tells her that she should trust him to take over her portfolio. She asks for a little personal information and about his relationship with his mother. He tells her that she meddles and she tells him about her mother and how she’d give anything to start over with a great mom.
Nolan shows up at the station after getting Jack’s message and Emily runs out having a breakdown. She tells him that David is alive and Nolan is in disbelief. Jack shows up and tells them that his fingerprints came back and it’s really him. Emily wants to see him and Jack tells him that he’ll find a way.
The chief of police calls in Victoria to tell her that they arrested David and an investigation is being launched. He tells her that she may have been David’s intended victim when he broke into Grayson Manor. The Feds show up and shut down the precinct but Emily tries to get in with no avail and Nolan tells her that they should just go.
Daniel gets Louise Ellis as a client and she gives him a hefty retainer so he’s able to move back into the penthouse. Louise Ellis shows up in his room with an expensive bottle of champagne, the same one she sent a glass to Victoria as a secret admirer while she met with Daniel by the pool. Daniel realizes that the the bottle she has is the same and asks her if she sent a glass to his mother earlier because it’s her favorite too. She tells him she didn’t then gives him swimming trunks as a gift so that he can squeeze in a little more playtime before leaving.
David is about to be in a recorded interview when Victoria walks in with a lawyer. David tells them that he just wants to tell the truth. He tells them that he’s not a terrorist and that Conrad faked his death and locked him away for years where he was tortured. He says he saw a way to escape and he took he. They tell him that Conrad is dead and that he admitted to framing him so his name is cleared. They asks him to lead them to where Conrad kept him and the lawyer asks that he be released.
Emily and Nolan are back at Grayson Manor where she tells him about how she wished she could see her father once more after he died. As she’s talking a press conference from the police department comes on and they say that David has been released. Emily tells Nolan that she’s going to go down there to see her dad but Nolan tells her that she should wait because they deserve some type of privacy. She tells him that they deserved it 20 years ago and she’s not waiting another day.
At the station, Victoria and David are talking and she tells him that he can tell her anything. He tells her that when he was locked away he analyzed everything, even her. He tells her that her saying she would take care of everything was the same thing she said 20 years ago before he was arrested and he won’t be anyone’s prisoner anymore. She starts to manipulate him and tells him that she got the lawyer so he wouldn’t be prosecuted for Conrad’s death. She then tells him that he needs her and she still needs him before he leaves to be released.
Emily and Nolan show up at David’s press conference where he brings out Victoria and Charlotte. Victoria speaks and pretty much throws it in Emily’s face that she knew David was alive and he’s now apart of her family.
Some takeaways….
– I just realized that there isn’t an intro monologue anymore. Dare I say, I actually miss it… as long as it’s coming from Emily.
– Louise Ellis is obviously cray… and a stalker. I want to hope that Daniel is not that dumb and that he’ll go with his gut that she may be up to something because she is. I still don’t really care about this storyline, or Margaux with David, and those are actually the parts where I semi tune out. I’m just telling you how it is.
– This entire David thing is a mess. At first I thought he knew that Emily was his daughter and Victoria was playing him but now I don’t know. Maybe he’s just going along with her but will eventually turn on her. It should not be that hard for Emily to reveal herself to David and him notice that she’s really Amanda. I just feel like Victoria is the problem. If we eliminate the problem we should be able to move to a conclusion. All I know is that I cannot deal with them dragging this Emily and David reunion out for that much longer. Let them meet and then let them band together to take Victoria down… end series.
Was Emily’s realization that her father is still alive all it was hyped up to be? Let me know in the comments!
