SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
You already know I have a lot to say about Olitz and it’s not all peachy. Check out this week’s recap below!
Mellie is back to her old self and is dressed (yes!) to go to the funeral for President Cooper. We quickly find out that he was killed by Leonard Carnehand by gunshot. He calls Olivia to represent him and tells her that he’s been set up and didn’t pull the trigger. He tells her the bullet in his head will prove that he wasn’t the killer and asks her to help him get the bullet to prove his innocence.
Michael meets with Lizzie after sleeping with Cyrus and going through the emails on his phone. He tells her some important information about the White House holding off on an announcement due to President Cooper’s death and wants her to renegotiate his terms for more money.
Abby goes into the Oval Office to talk to Fitz about Jake and Fitz isn’t having it. Abby doesn’t back down and points out his bruised hands and questions if Jake is being treated fairly. Fitz tells her to back down but Abby tells him that if he really loves Olivia he will tell her what’s going on because he hasn’t heard her wake up screaming from a nightmare, she has.
Quinn interrupts Huck’s gaming session to see if he got any information on the key from Caitlin’s friend’s body. He tells her that he’s narrowed it down to a particular area but it’s going to take awhile for them to figure out what the key goes to. Olivia walks in and tells them to get her all the information she needs to know about Leonard. They tell her that there is a chance that there was another shooter so they decide that he needs to plea guilty so that it will become a murder case and they can demand the bullet can be used as evidence in the case.
Lizzie goes on live television and leaks the information about the military bases closing. Cyrus tells Abby to figure out how she got the information but Abby tells him it’s not her fault. Cyrus tells her that Fitz is looking for any reason to fire her so if she wants to keep her job she’ll do what he asked. Abby calls Olivia to let her know about her confrontation with Fitz and Cyrus and while their on the phone Fitz shows up.
Fitz starts off by calling Abby a bitch and Olivia puts him in his place. She tells him to take her to see Jake and Fitz won’t do it. She tells him that she knows him and Fitz tells her she doesn’t before throwing a bunch of false evidence in her face and also telling her that she doesn’t know Jake like she knows him. She tells him to take her to see him and he goes to ask her something but she cuts him off asking if he’s asking why she’s acting like a bitch and he leaves.
Lizzie confronts Mellie and tells her to deny on the record that there is a base closing but Mellie shuts that down real quick. Meanwhile OPA gets the ball rolling to get Leonard brought up on charges of murder by leaking it to the media. The White House falls for the bait and he’s officially charged with murder.
Mellie meets with Betsy who reveals that she was the one behind President Cooper’s most notable accomplishments. She tells her that all she will be remembered for is the wife of a man who did something with his life.
Fitz meets with Rowan who wants Fitz to hand Jake over to him. He tells him that he owes it to Fitz and wants to be the one to do the disciplining. Fitz tells him that Jake will be trialed publicly and executed in front of the world. Rowan tells him that he underestimated him and to do what needs to be done, don’t be swayed by anyone.
Fitz tells him that Olivia wants to see Jake and Rowan thinks he should let her because every moment she’s kept from Jake is a moment for her to think that Jake is a hero. He tells him to do what needs to be done and don’t let love cloud his judgement.
During the trial the defense asks for the bullet in President Cooper’s head and David tries to fight it. The judge rules in favor of the defense and David realizes that he was set up by Olivia. He tells her that the bullet is going to seal Leonard’s fate. Olivia leaves from meeting with Leonard and is escorted by the secret service to see Jake. Jake’s face is jacked up thanks to Fitz. He asks her to go into his off shore bank account and make sure the money makes it to his mother. She tells him that he’s not going to die but he tells her that he is because everyone believes he’s guilty, including her. He tells her that his word won’t change anything and in the end she won’t choose him and that’s okay.
Mellie and Betsy are kicked back on the balcony having martinis. Mellie tells her a little bit about her life as the First Lady but Betsy shows no pity and tells her that she was grateful for her husband’s transgressions because she was able to run the country.
Jake tells Rowan that he loves Olivia and he tells Jake that he gave his greatest asset to him on a silver platter and he ruined it. Rowan then telels him that he played Fitz for a fiddle until he believed he was in control because that’s who Command is. Olivia confronts Fitz about handing Jake over to her father and Fitz still believes that Jake killed his son. He tells her to look at what Jake did to her, to him, his family and to them because they’re ruined and they don’t have a chance anymore. She tells him that if he hands Jake over to her father there will never be any chance for them, ever. Fitz asks her if she’s telling him that there’s hope for them. She doesn’t answer and he keeps asking her until she relents and tells him that there is hope before leaving the office.
Mellie tells that press that Fitz would never close navy bases because he’s a navy man. Cyrus contacts Abby about how the information leaked and she tells him that he may want to look into who he’s spending his time with because it’s connected to the new cell phone he got.
We find out that Huck has been so into this game because he’s playing his son… even though his son doesn’t know who he is. Quinn finally finds the locker and it holds hundreds of pictures of Olivia which means that they were after Olivia. Fitz tells Jake that he’s sending him to a maximum security prison and to consider it a gift for the woman they both love.
Rowan confronts Olivia at the pool and asks her what she did to get Jake released. She tells him she did it to save Jake and Fitz and Rowan is pissed and tells her she crossed him and she tells him she has her own weapons at her disposal before swimming off.
Some takeaways…
– I CANNOT with Olivia and Fitz. I give up, I wipe my hands of Olivia. Y’all already know how I feel about Olitz and the scene in the office when she asks him not to send Jake to her father pissed me off to the tenth degree. Fitz is my least favorite character and it’s going to take a lot for me to like him again even remotely… and that’s not happening anytime soon.
– I think Jake is going to get free. How, I don’t know, but I know that things are going to work in his favor and I hope it leads to Rowan being taken down for good because he needs to be held accountable for what he’s done.
– I’m glad Abby is off her high horse and seems to be functioning in reality again. Hopefully that lasts. Also glad to see David getting in a win the legal way.
– I really want Huck to meet his son. It was cute to see that he’s spending time with him virtually even though his son doesn’t know who he is. I’m really interested in seeing how that story plays out.
