SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
I feel like the writers are trying to give me a heart attack with what they showed us at the end of this episode. Get into my slightly shorter (finally) recap below!
We open with a training sequence– Roy with Oliver, Laurel with the boxer and Thea with Malcolm. Then we cut to Felicity working out to a workout DVD. She’s interrupted by Ray who to give energy back to the city. They’re interrupted by Felicity’s mom who is like the complete opposite of Felicity. She’s geeked to meet Ray Palmer “the watch maker” and he gives her the prototype for his new watch.
Oliver meets Thea at her new house and finds out that she’s been using Malcolm’s money and lied about her club investors. Olivier thinks her it’s blood money and that Malcolm will try to have a hold on her. Thea walks away and the power in the entire city goes out. Oliver leaves and sees a message on all televisions telling the city that this hacker is under control before turning the lights back on.
Light’s Out
Felicity brings her mom with her to the lair and she swoons over Oliver and baby Sara. Oliver starts freaking out about Sara being there and doesn’t want him to bring her down into the lair so Felicity’s mom watches her. Laurel is acting as District Attorney while the real one is out of town. Detective Lance calls Felicity to make sure Team Arrow is on it. A riot is taking place at Starling National so Oliver and Roy suit up to help the police. They shoot gas arrows and help disperse the crowd.
While trying to stop the virus Felicity realizes that she can’t stop it because it’s the same one she wrote five years prior.
Of course they’re all about Felicity and they take place five years prior. Felicity is totally goth, in college, dating a guy and hangs out with fellow hackers. They hack into the Department of Education and Cooper, her boyfriend, tries to erase all student loan debt which causes some tension.
Cooper is still pissed about Felicity stopping his hack but she tells him that his hack could be traced back to him. He ends up getting arrested by the FBI while they’re on campus. She visits him in prison and tells him that she’s going confess to writing the virus. Cooper tells her he already took the blame because he promised to protect her.
Felicity Breaks Down
Felicity is freaking out because she never imagined the virus would be used for evil. She tells Oliver about the hacking team she was apart of in college and about the virus she created so that they could get into any infected system. She tells him that Myron, Cooper’s roommate has to be the one behind it.
Quentin is pissed at Laurel for calling a riot squad. He asks her what’s going on because she hasn’t been acting like herself. She tells him that she can’t talk about it with him and he tells her that she needs to talk about it with someone.
Oliver and Roy pay Myron a visit and demand he shuts down the virus. He tells them that he’s not behind it and tells them to look into some people who he shared the code with while in college. They head back to the lair and Oliver drills Felicity about contacting her ex and she tells them about Cooper being arrested and that he committed suicide while in jail. She leaves and goes to Queens Consolidated to clear her head and is interrupted by Ray.
While talking, or trying to, Felicity’s mom shows up upset about being left alone. Felicity goes off and tells her mom that she’s sorry she’s not the daughter she wants her to be and that she’s not invested in her love life like she is. Her mom tells her that all she sees is her father in her and there’s nothing of her in Felicity. She tells her that she always thought that one day she would leave her like her father did but she realizes she already did.
Who’s Got the Virus
Felicity returns to the lair but Oliver realizes that her head isn’t in it and tells her she needs to take an hour and go talk to her mom. She reluctantly goes back to her apartment to talk to her mom. She tries to tell her that it’s okay that they’re different but she finds out that her mother got an email about a free flight to Starling right before they’re abducted.
They’re taken to an unidentified location filled with televisions with the same screen as the ones displayed on the screens in the city during the blackout. The leader of the group walks out and reveals himself i– it’s Cooper’s ass.
He’s suicide was a setup by the NSA who needed a really good hacker. He tells her that after he finished with the NSA he went looking for her but found out that she was working in corporate America as a lapdog. He tells her his plan which involves Felicity hacking into the Treasury Department system to direct the trucks of cash to where they are. She declines and he points a gun at Felicity’s mom telling her that’s why he flew her mom in.
A Sticky Situation
Oliver is worried about Felicity because she’s been gone for over an hour. Felicity hacks into the Treasury Department and tells him that the trucks are on the way to him. They leave to go meet the trucks and Felicity hears the watch Ray gave her mother and realizes that it can be used as a computer since it has WiFi. Cooper walks back while she’s trying to send out their location and points the gun at her. Felicity’s mom stands up to him and Oliver shows up just in time. Oliver is inside trying to outrun an automatic gun while Roy and Diggle are outside with the other guys. Liver finally shuts down the automated gun as Cooper has a hold on Felicity and is about to shoot her when she goes all “kung fu yesness” on him, hitting him and taking away the gun.
Oliver asks Felicity if she’s okay and she tells him that she is, but ex lovers sometimes open old wounds. He tells her that he’s glad she’s had the experiences she’s had because it shaped her into the woman she is today and she knows how he feels about her.
Laurel opens up to the boxer guy and tells him about Sara’s death and how she can’t tell her father. He tells her that now he knows how to teach her and to help her direct her anger.
Oliver shows up at Thea’s new place to tell her that he agrees to meet her halfway. She asks Oliver to move in with her so they don’t have to keep missing each other. She tells him that once the club starts making a profit she’ll donate Malcolm’s money. Oliver agrees and they sit to watch a movie not knowing that Malcolm is watching from a nearby rooftop (creepy).
Felicity’s mom stops by Queens Consolidated to say goodbye to Felicity and Felicity tells her that she was wrong about her only have pieces of her father in her. She tells her that she gets her strength from her.
We end with Roy in a dream and in it we see Sara and ROY throwing arrows into her, killing her. Please say it ain’t so.
Some takeaways…
– Say it ain’t so, PLEASE say it ain’t so. If they try to tell me Roy killed Sara I won’t have it. Y’all already know he’s my fave so I’m going to assume that this is just a ploy to throw us off track.
– This Felicity episode was totally needed because we really didn’t know much about where she came from. Her mom is a mess, but I can take her in small doses.
– I’m still sticking to my theory that Ra’s al Ghul is behind Sara’s death. Things are heating up and I’m excited to see where it leads.
Do you think Roy killed Sara? Let me know in the comments!
