SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So we had an unlikely trio and and a maybe, kind of sort of surprising ending. Of course I tell you all of my thoughts, feelings and theories following the recap. Check it out below!
Olivia meets with Elizabeth because she believes someone has hacked into her phone and is trying to take her down. OPA take her on as a client and they realize she has a lot of possible enemies. Meanwhile Andrew is on his way back to the White House when a car bomb goes off so Fitz raises the threat level. Rowan calls Olivia to “check up on her” because she stopped calling and showing up for dinner. He tells her that they need to make up and move on, that Jake and Fitz are not her family. He tells her regardless of what ever happens he will always be waiting for her and Olivia hangs up.
Mellie rushes to see Andrew to make sure he’s okay but he ensures her that he is. She asks for the room and he thanks her for checking on him right before she grabs his face and kisses him… which leads to you know what.
David is summoned by the Unlikely Trio (This is what they’re team name will be) because they want him to prosecute Rowan. They want him to handle it discreetly so that it doesn’t become public which would greatly damage the Republic– David reluctantly agrees. After the meeting Fitz asks Olivia how she’s doing and she convinces him she’s fine. He goes in for a kiss but she turns away. He asks her if it’s because of Jake and she doesn’t answer, but he tells her that they’re alone and “it’s free” so kiss him because she knows she wants to… and she does.
Olivia returns to the office to find Huck playing games with Javie. Huck tells Javie it’s time to leave and Olivia asks Huck if his mother knows he’s been seeing his son. Huck tells her that Javie is his son and then asks her if she has a work related request for him. She asks him to see what dirt Elizabeth has on Cyrus and Huck throws it back in her face about her being their client and what the law would say about that.
Olivia shows Cyrus the photos of him with Michael in uncompromising positions and he calls himself stupid. He tells her that he’s compromised his integrity, his family and the president. Olivia calls Elizabeth and lies telling her that her phone wasn’t hacked but that it was just a virus. Olivia asks Cyrus to give her chance to do what it is that she does and tells him that he’s not to see Michael in his current state.
Olivia meets with Jake to update him on the status of the files and getting her father into custody. He asks her if she’s for sure getting him out of there and she convinces him that she will. He tells her that she could’ve left him to rot and danced in the sun with Fitz and she tells him to never mention her, the sun and another man in the same sentence again.
Meanwhile, Michael shows up at Cyrus house to check on him since he cancelled. Michael tries to seduce him but Cyrus isn’t having it. Cyrus tells him to turn around and presses his face into the couch and the scene fades. The next day Huck tells Olivia that Michael didn’t give Elizabeth any information so she confronts Michael to see why he didn’t. He tells her about Elizabeth’s secret affair and Huck goes to her apartment to bug it with cameras and lets Javie tag along during the stakeout. He apologizes for making him leave the office and tells him that they shouldn’t hand out where he works.
The Unlikely Trio meet again to discuss how to arrest Rowan– of course Jake and Fitz are in disagreement. They’re too busy arguing that they won’t even listen to Olivia. She calls her father hysterical and tells him that he was right about Jake and Fitz and how they just want to fight. Rowan tells her that it’s his fault, he damaged her. He asks her what he can do and she tells him that she’d like to have dinner so they make the arrangements. After they hang up she makes a call and tells the person the time. We then see that it was a setup and she was the shiny object that had to be dangled for Rowan to come running.
Andrew goes to talk to Mellie about what happened between them and why she hadn’t even talked to him for months. She tells him that she erased him because he chose the vice presidency over her and then the bomb happened. She tells him that she’s not the same as she used to be but asks him for a second chance and they embrace. Olivia calls and tells Cyrus about Elizabeth’s secret affair and that Michael cares about him and didn’t give her much information.
At dinner Rowan tells Olivia that he hasn’t been the best father but he only wanted her to be the best. He tells her that he tried and he never put anything, including his job, before her– everything he’s done is because of her. Meanwhile everyone is in position to take Rowan down and they’re entire exchange is being recorded. He tells her that he is who he is because of her and the men outside who were ready to take him down are dead because of her. We then see that the boxes of files that David is about to go through is filled with blank paper.
He tells her that she’s been blinded by the light and standing in the sun. He also tells her that she will never be one of them and that had he been caught he would’ve been tried and executed. He tells her that he tried but for the first time in her life she’s on her own and just wait until she sees what the world is like without her. He then leaves right before the police can get to the restaurant.
Some takeaways…
– I was holding my breath this entire episode because I was sure that Papa Pope was going down, but as always he was several steps ahead of everyone else. I can’t even front, Rowan is legit. Don’t really know where he’s going but things are definitely about to get interesting.
– [SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER] Y’all know I said in the most recent podcast that Mama Pope is supposed to be returning for the mid-season finale. I’m not sure how it’s going to play out but I’m going to predict that one of Liv’s parents will die.
– I’m still 100% Team Jake and I just can’t rock with Fitz. His actions are becoming a little rapey/pervie… don’t get all twisted up in a knot, I’m just saying. He’s being forceful and it’s disgusting to watch… can we please fix this Scandal writers?
– Poor Mellie, she just can’t catch a break. Andrew is dirty and I’m at the point where I just want to see Mellie win for once. If that means ditching all guys and just focusing on herself I’m for it but I mean like damn, we just go rid of smelly Mellie and I don’t want to see depressed and scorned Mellie.
Did you think that Rowan was going to be arrested. Let me know your thoughts and theories in the comments!
