SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So I literally got all of my life these past two days thanks to The Flash and Arrow crossover. It surpassed all of my expectations and then some. I had so much fun watching and interacting on social media. Let’s just get into this recap below!
Team Arrow shows up to Central City following a lead looking for someone committing homicides using a boomerang. Felicity takes the boomerang to Star Labs to get help with finding out where it came from. After some convincing, Oliver decides to help Barry track down Bivolo. After a brutal lesson with Oliver on learning his surroundings Barry goes after Bivolo alone and ends up looking into his eyes which releases his anger and he unleashes it on everyone around him. It leads to an epic showdown between him and Oliver who tries to stopping him from almost killing Eddie. After capturing Bivolo and wrapping things up in Central City Oliver runs into …, his ex with the baby that he doesn’t know about, at the coffee shop and when she goes to the counter we here her on the phone with the kid that she never aborted.
Captain Boomerang takes down Argus
Team Arrow has tracked Captain Boomerang to a house that’s been rigged to blow once anyone entered. They set off the explosives and enter to find that he’s escaped but come face to face with Argus. The head guy tells him that it’s an Argus case now and to let it go but Oliver isn’t having it. They return to the lair and try to see if Diggle can convince Lyla to get them any information but he tells them that she most likely won’t help them.
Caitlin and Cicso show up in Starling City with information from the analysis Felicity asked them to conduct and she takes them to the lair where Cisco completely geeks out. Meanwhile, Diggle goes to Argus to see if he can get any information from Lyla but she won’t budge. While he’s there Captain Boomerang breaks in and takes down all of the guards. Diggle calls Oliver and he and Roy head to Argus. Lyla and Diggle come face to face with Captain Boomerang and Oliver and Roy get there in time to help fight him off. Roy gets taken down and Oliver almost gets hit by a boomerang when Barry comes speeding in (in a flash… I had to) and catches the boomerangs saving him.
The Flashback
Oliver meets with Amanda Waller who has a guy named Chang tied up and she wants Oliver to get answers from him. She gives him his arrows and tells him she wants him to get the information and has no interest in how he does it. Oliver tries to get information out of Chang and picks up his arrow but Chang believes he’s nervous and tells him that much. Oliver asks him where the bomb is and it goes off at that exact moment. Amanda is pissed at Oliver because he thought he could reason with Chang. She tells him that there are people in the world who only deal in extremes. She tells him that this blood is on his hands. She tells him that torture is an art form and that he has the talent for it. Amanda gives Oliver a second chance and brings in Wee who worked for Chang. She tells him too redeem himself and get information out of him; Oliver doesn’t hesitate.
Oliver asks Lyla who attacked them and she gives them all the information they have on him. During a Suicide Squad mission she had to make a call to kill the squad but Captain Boomerang survived and is now after her. They bring her back to the lair where she’ll be safe and she meets Barry aka The Flash. Oliver asks Felicity to find out information on Captain Boomerang and Barry tries to help but Oliver pulls him aside. He tells him things work differently in Starling City and Barry pleads his case and Oliver gives in. Cisco makes the connection that the boomerangs had been made by Marcos. Oliver and Barry go to the precinct so Barry get the criminal records of Marcos under the guise of working with the Central City police.
They find out that he worked with the Russian mob and they (Oliver, Barry, Roy and Diggle) go to where they think they’ll find him. Barry gets in first and ties up the men and Oliver confronts Marcos putting an arrow in his arm. Barry thinks he’s going too far but Marcos gives up his phone and Barry takes him to Quentin in the precinct. Barry questions Oliver about torturing Marcos and Oliver tells him that he’s not in Central City anymore and tells him how things go. Barry tells him he saw his mother die too but he doesn’t use that to validate torturing people. Oliver gets upset and tells him that he agreed to let him help because they agreed it would be done his way and if he can’t handle it to leave.
The Setup
Back at the lair Amanda notices the tension between Oliver and Barry and asks if everything is okay. He tells her that they had a disagreement about their tactics. Felicity tracks Captain Boomerang and Team Flarrow goes after him. In the car with Roy and Cisco Diggle lets some of his feelings off of his chest about how he only wants to protect his family and those he loves. Cisco tells them that metahumans and superpowers were given to them to help fight the crazies and save people. They get there and Captain Boomerang is not there but he has the guys they captured give Oliver a phone.
At the lair the first phone they recovered rings and Felicity tells them they need to leave but it’s too late because Captain Boomerang is already there. He attacks her and she gets hit with a boomerang as Felicity throws a bomb and Captain Boomerang flees. Felicity and Caitlin run to help Lyla but she’s stopped breathing. The guys et back and Caitlin has Lyla stabilized but she can’t do much from the lair so Barry takes her to the hospital.
Cisco, Roy and Felicity have drinks at Thea’s club and she asks them if everything is okay and Roy tells her it’s just been a ruff night. Caitlin returns with news that Lyla is going to be okay. Cisco and Caitlin asks them how they deal with the fact that anyone they love can be hurt. They tell them that they haven’t been taking this seriously because they’ve been treating the metahumans like they’re not real.
Oliver and Barry are alone and Oliver thinks that what happened to Lyla is his fault. Barry tells him it’s not and Oliver tells him that he feels like he’s been chipping away at Oliver Queen and all that’s left is The Arrow. Barry tells him that’s bs and his humanity is what helped him through– he has a light inside him. Felicity interrupts them to let them know she ran facial recognition and has a match. Oliver and Barry go to the train station where Barry clears the platform and Oliver demands he gets on the ground. Captain Boomerang lets them know he has five bombs throughout the city and they’re going to have to make a choice to save the people or stop him.
Barry takes off to find the bombs while Oliver takes on Captain Boomerang. Felicity, Cisco and Caitlin locate the bombs and Barry gets to the first one. They tell him that the bombs are linked and he has to disarm them all at the same time or they’ll blow. Barry comes up with the idea to place Felicity, Cisco, Caitlin and Roy at the other bombs so they can all stop the bombs together. They count it down and cut the wires exactly at three and save the city. Back at the platform Captain Boomerang is taunts Oliver and tells him he didn’t accomplish anything, he’s just week. He turns to walk away and is about to get hit with a boomerang but Oliver hits him with another arrow.
The Aftermath
Diggle is at the hospital with Lyla who wakes up and he asks her to marry him. Of course she says yes. At the lair, Caitlin tells Felicity that she should be able to run analysis on the arrow that killed Sara but will call next time. Oliver has Felicity put a mannequin in for Barry the next time he’s in Starling City. Cisco also has a gift, a new jacket that can carry way more equipment. Oliver and Barry have a final challenge to see who is the best. Barry tells him that he can inspire people, not as Arrow, but as Oliver Queen. They get into place, count down and face off with Oliver shooting arrows before Barry runs towards him and it explodes into the end slate.
Some takeaways…
– I just want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed these crossover episodes. I did read that there aren’t any plans for a crossover event during the second half of the season, but any The Flash and Arrow collaborations I’m totally for!
– I loved the interaction between the two teams and I really do think both took something away from this crossover. Sidenote, I’mma need Roy to not keep losing during battle because I’m a major Roy fan and he’s only one like once this season.
– Next week is the midseason finale and Oliver is going face to face with Ra’s al Ghul… what the fuck. It’s like really writers, do you not want to give my heart a break? That is going to be an amazing episode and I have no idea how it’s going to end. Arrow is good for leaving us with heart wrenching cliffhangers and I don’t know if my heart can handle another death. It’s too soon people! I’m so excited and cannot wait!
