SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
So I found out that this was the mid-season finale… I guess… at the end of this episode. I could’ve sworn we had at least one more episode but hey, it is what it is. Of course, I have tons to say about who died this week and it’s all at the end of the recap below!
Nolan pays Louise a visit on her boat to apologize for helping Margaux. He suggests to get the press something else to talk about, she co-hosts his opening with him. Meanwhile Emily goes to Jack and tells him about her suspicion of Kate and her ties to David but he doesn’t believe she’s involved. David meets with his old cellmate and he gets a drug that’s supposed to be able to knock a large man out and make it look like a stroke. Back at the beach house, Victoria is getting ready to leave when she opens the door to find Kate who’s there to question her about the photo of Emily she received with “The answer is Emily Thorne” (finally figured out what it said) written across it.
She tells her she traced the message back to her and asks her what it means. Victoria plays like she doesn’t know what she’s talking about but gives her some not so subtle hints. She wants her and David to have the life that was stolen from them without any interference and tells her to figure out Emily’s connection to David. Nolan has been watching footage of Kate and they find out she has a second phone she didn’t register. Emily plans to figure out what Kate is up to at the party.
Margaux doesn’t want anything to do with Daniel and tells him that because of the baby she wants nothing to do with him. He tells her the only one running is her, not him. While blowing off some steam golfing we get a flashback of Daniel with Conrad and Conrad is trying to cover up the car accident. Daniel asks him why he’s so concerned with his future and Conrad gives him an answer befitting of Conrad Grayson. Daniel pulls some old boxes from storage and it’s letters he wrote to Conrad. Victoria meets with Margaux to go over the spread on David and Margaux tells her about the pregnancy. She asks her if she’s going to raise the baby alone and she tells her that she was considering it because something has changed Daniel. Victoria tells her that a child deserves a father and Daniel is not like Conrad, he loves her.
Daniel gets a text from Victoria asking him to talk and they meet at the bar. He tells her that he doesn’t feel like fighting with her and that he doesn’t think he’s going to be a good father. He tells her everything he’s done in his past that he shouldn’t have and Victoria tries to put it on Emily but he tells her that Emily only made them face the truth. He tells her they need to stop living in lies and she needs to come clean with David and tells her he’s not running anymore before leaving.
Victoria returns to the beach house to find David back and he tells her to go sit as he prepares them glasses of wine, pouring the drug he got from his old cellmate in one of the glasses. Meanwhile, Daniel goes to the beach by Grayson Manor with the letter he wrote to Conrad and has a flashback of when Conrad stopped him from going into the courthouse to tell the truth about the accident he had with Sara. He gets a call from Margaux and tells her that she was right about him. She tells him that she wasn’t and that she was being like her father. They both agree that they don’t want to be like their fathers and she asks him to come home because her and the baby need him.
David gives Victoria her glass of wine and tells her that he’s going to be honest with her from now on. Before she drinks it she stops and confesses about stealing his laptop and giving it to Conrad 20 years ago. She tells him that she was afraid of him because he had been hiding that his wife was sick. She waited for him to tell him the truth but he didn’t and he made her doubt him and she hated him for it. When Conrad told her about the bomb she felt trapped and used David to get herself out of it. She asks for his forgiveness.
Meanwhile Jack and Nolan are enjoying a drink when Kate’s identity from her fingerprints come back. Jack runs to Emily’s house but before he gets there Emily has knocked Kate out the window. Kate gets back in the house and they’re fighting again. At the same time Jack is running to the house Daniel hears the scuffle and goes to see what’s going on. The girls fall over the stairs from the second floor and Kate runs to get the gun while Emily is struggling to get up. Daniel comes running in when he sees Emily on the floor and goes to help her. Emily tells him to get out of there and run but Kate shoots him and goes to shoot Emily but Jack enters and kills Kate. David and Victoria hear the shots next door. As Daniel dies we hear the entire letter he wrote to Conrad. Emily tells him that he’s going to be okay. he asks her is she’s just lying to him again and she tells him that it all wasn’t a lie what they had and he tells her he knows before dying.
Some takeaways…
– I fucking knew it. You know when someone is going to die because the writers like to make it blatantly obvious and this is what they did with Daniel. We got multiple flashbacks with Conrad, he figured out who he was and what he wanted to be, Margaux finally got off the bs and then just like that he’s gone. Daniel was one of those interesting characters and he for sure took us on many roller coaster rides. I was actually enjoying him this season because I hated him as a character last season. I just feel like, well… okay then. We all knew that Josh Bowman wanted his character killed off and we all knew deep within that he would at some point get his wish. As much as I lobbied for Margaux it was Daniel and I’m honestly, weirdly, okay with that. He died as the selfless Daniel we all fell in love with in season one– who could ask for more?
– Can we talk about Margaux for a little bit? Like, why is she still needed? Daniel drove her storyline and now he’s gone. Even with the baby it’s– like Margaux who? Total snooze fest. There really is nothing they can do to make me like Margaux, they just can’t. I don’t want to tell them how they could’ve killed her off because I have many scenarios… but she’s still here and hopefully after the funeral she’ll peace out back to France.
– Victoria is going to lose it. This was like a major lesson for Victoria that I don’t think she will learn from. All of this could’ve been avoided if everyone told the fucking truth. I mean, we wouldn’t have a show but damn Victoria was a conniving, manipulative person who doesn’t know how to tell the truth. She finally told the truth to David tonight right when he was taking matters into his own hands and was going to kill her. She semi redeemed herself with David and maybe even Daniel but then her son dies. She is totally not going to take that well at all and Emily better watch out. Then again, she is the one who sent Kate after Emily to begin with.
– I don’t know, but I do know that this show needs to wrap it up. I am usually the first to ride or die for a show being renewed but oh Revenge how I love thee but this needs to be the final season. I don’t know, I could ramble on and on but that’s what podcasts are for!
