SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
I honestly don’t know how I feel about this episode, if I would call it good or bad. I feel like it’s more in the middle. Either way, I have a wealth of opinions in the takeaways. So let’s get into the recap shall we?
Louise’s brother Lyman is in town and she believes he’s there about the news that leaked to the press. He wants her to return to Savannah but Nolan steps in and takes the blame and invites him to dinner. Meanwhile, David meets with Emily and he tells her that he plans to kill her that night and it will look like a suicide. Emily thinks she should let her live and suffer with Daniel’s death and they just leave so that they can get to know each other. She tells him she just needs a few weeks to tie up lose ends and asks him to stay with her in the meantime.
Malcolm Black shows up at Jack’s house asking about his daughter Kate. Jack tells him he hasn’t seen her and he subtly (not so subtly) threatens Jack with the father angle. Sidenote, can we talk about the tiny glimpse we got of baby Carl after he’s MIA like all season. Okay, back to the recap.
Emily meets Louise at Nolan’s health club and she gives her condolences about Daniel. Emily tells Nolan that she talked her father out of killing Victoria and that she plans to leave the Hamptons with her father. Nolan tells Emily about Louise’s brother and that he thinks he’s there for other reasons. He invites her to dinner and she agrees to come and help him out.
David meets Jack in an undisclosed location and Jack is panicking. He’s sent Carl off to stay with cousins and David tells him to stay away from Emily since Malcolm believes she’s dead until they can figure out they’re next move. Emily meets with Ben on the beach and he tells her about being promoted and asks her on a date again but she tells him that she’ll be leaving the Hamptons soon. Walking pass The Stowaway alone, she overhears Louise talking to her brother about her mental condition and how she almost went to jail and isn’t stable enough to be living on her own.
Victoria invites Marguax over to share with her some of Daniel’s things that she had been going through. Marguax is not handling his death well and Victoria tells her that they’ll get through it together. Marguax asks her what she’s supposed to tell her child and she tells her that his death is not how they’ll remember him. Marguax tells him that she only wants her child to know the truth before throwing the box of memorabilia and storming out the door.
Emily stops by Nolan’s place and tells him about what she overheard Louise and her brother arguing about. He tells her that he has Louise’s criminal file and she checks it telling him that she’s trying to protect him. She asks him why he’s turning a blind eye and he tells her he believes she’s a good person who had a hard life.
David calls Malcolm Black from Kate’s phone and tells him that Kate is safe for now. Malcolm wants to talk to her but David refuses telling him that he wasn’t given the same opportunity to talk to Amanda when he asked while working for him. Malcolm threatens to kill Victoria and Carl but David tells him that he can do that but he won’t see Kate again. Malcolm relents and they arrange to meet that night.
Jack meets David and he tells him about his plan for Malcolm Black while Jack tells him about Alvarez missing. Jack thinks telling Malcolm that his daughter is still alive is a bad idea but he tells him about Nolan having the hard drive that he’s supposed to release if anything happens to him.
Marguax shows up at the precinct and overhears Ben leaving Emily a message. She goes all nutso and starts accusing him of not investigating Emily because they’re dating and threatens to attack them through the media. As she’s walking away she collapses and they call for an ambulance.
At dinner, Lyman starts revealing Louise’s mental state but she’s seeing visions of her mother so she’s coming off as crazy. She starts screaming at her mother and tries to attack her but she ends up hitting Nolan. Lyman escorts her away and Nolan tells Emily that she was right but she tells him that she thinks he’s the one who was right.
At the hospital we find out that Marguax and the baby is fine but she needs to avoid stress because her blood pressure is high. Victoria shows up and tells her that she needs family to lean on. She tells her that she’s going to be 100% truthful and tells her Daniel died saving Emily but that’s not the beginning. She starts off telling her about a damaged little girl, Amanda Clarke, who is really Emily Thorne not knowing that Ben is outside the door listening.
David is waiting for Malcolm to show up but Jack comes and tries to stop him. David tells him that he’s not the same person anymore, that Malcolm changed him. He tells him about how he tried to reach out to Amanda but Malcolm confiscated the letter and made him choose between killing the guard who helped him or having Amanda killed. He chose killing the guard and he tells him that he’s not going to stop until he’s dead. Jack tells him that he got to Nolan and turned the USB drive in anonymously. The police are at the meetup spot and take Malcolm into custody but David tells Jack that he made the wrong decision.
Nolan tells Lyman that he knows about the pills Louise has been taking. He tells him that he’s had nothing to do with whatever medication she’s been taking. Nolan tells him that Louise will be staying in the Hamptons and asks him to leave. Meanwhile Victoria gets a message from David asking her to meet him at the lighthouse. When she shows up she finds Emily there and she’s pissed. She tells her that she found the photo and Daniel died because of Victoria. She tells her to run because once she tells her father she won’t be able to stop him. As Victoria is talking she suddenly collapses and then Emily collapses. They’ve been hit with a laced dart by Malcolm Black who now knows that Emily is really Amanda Clarke. Thanks Jack.
Some takeaways…
– Oh Jack. He’s finally doing something besides being mad at Emily and he’s f-n ish up. This is why he needs a chaperone or something because he never seems to really look at the whole picture when it comes to these things. If I was him I would’ve just let David handle it because this is a little bit out of his league.
– We sadly still have to deal with Marguax. Now that she knows the truth I’m not sure how she’s going to act moving forward. I honestly would not be upset if we didn’t see her for a few episodes. Seriously, she is draining. Get rid of her. It’s sad, but I wanted her to have a miscarriage or something– I just don’t like her as a character.
– Now that we know Louise has been drugged that lessens some of my dislike for her. I still don’t think we needed to make her a main role. With the crazy she’s at least a tad bit interesting. But without the crazy she’s just another spoiled, rich girl who adds another not needed storyline to the mix. So whatevs, we’ll see how it plays out.
– Of course Victoria wasn’t going to die tonight. Unfortunately we now have to see how she and Emily escape Malcolm Black. Don’t get me wrong, it adds something interesting to it but I feel like they keep trying to force these moments where Emily and Victoria have to work together. I don’t know, we’ll just see how it all plays out.
– What I’m most interested in is Ben and what he’s going to do now that he knows everything… like everything. Now that is the best twist of the night because he is already nosy and this is like the icing on the cake.
