SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
It was a (very) slow burn that led to a shocking and pretty awesome ending… at least from the viewer’s perspective. Read the recap below!
Huck and David meet and Huck wants full immunity before he goes along with David’s plan to bring down B613. David tries to tell him that he has a very detailed plan but Huck isn’t budging and David agrees. Susanne stops by OPA asking for three million dollars to not publish the book and she wants it from whoever hired Olivia. Olivia tells her she’s not getting any money and Susanne asks her when she became weak. She tells her that she’s afraid but it’s her story to tell or sell.
Olivia and crew decide that they need to go through the book and a kinky profile website and figure out who the men are and get them to chip into the pay Susanne to shut up fund. They set her up using Charlie so Huck can sneak into her apartment and find the hard copy of the book. Huck finds the book and makes copies and they comb through it page by page to decipher the code names she used for the men in the book. Huck is deciphering the names with ease and they get down to the final name “The Dr” and Abby figures out it’s David. He tells them it was at a low point in his life when he was substitute teaching.
Fitz is meeting with Cyrus and Abby about his police body camera bill when Mellie comes in and tells them that she’s running for senator in Virginia and wants Leo to be her campaign manager but Abby tells her he’s not available. Cyrus pays Lizzie a visit at the playground to get her help enlisting votes for Fitz police body cameras bill.
Abby is writing her resignation letter but Leo tells her that she doesn’t need to worry because it will all fall on him. She tells him that whatever happens to him happens to her telling him about everything the press says about her and how his name is always included in it. She asks him if her name is ever included in the articles about him and she gets silence. She tells him that her accomplishments mean nothing because she’s seen as property of him and that’s why she’s writing her letter of resignation.
Liv and crew try to figure out another way to stop the book and Quinn points out something she said when she came to the office. They decide they need to find out who Susanne is. While at home Olivia decides to put herself in Susanne’s shoes and goes out to the bar. She meets a guy and is totally about to take him back to her apartment but when she goes to the bathroom she freaks out from flashbacks of when she was being held hostage and runs out of the place.
Huck finds out why Susanne was fired and Olivia calls her in to meet. Susanne was fired because she said no to her boss who thought she’d have sex with him because he’d heard about her ways. She tells her that she can publish the book if she wants to stay in this moment but she should really be going after her boss. Susanne gives her statement and Liv tells her she’s lined up some interviews for her.
Huck and Quinn go to check on Susanne but they find one of the men threatening her in her apartment with a knife. They get him to leave and as Quinn is questioning why he let him go he slashes Susanne’s throat telling Quinn that she would’ve talked eventually and ruined his plans with David.
Olivia is freaking out and wants all of the men in the book questioned. Quinn shows her the copy of the book and Olivia asks her if she knows who killed Susanne. She tells her that Susanne is not her client Abby is and turning that book over to the police comes at a cost to Abby to her family. David gives Huck his immunity agreement while he talks about how he feels somewhat responsible for Susanne’s death. Huck signs the papers then leaves and tells him that he’s going home. Olivia goes back to the bar for a second go and she meets the same guy and they actually make it back to her apartment and it gets steamy.
Some takeaways…
– Wtf Huck?! Usually I’m not that surprised by some of the things that happen in this show but I totally did not see that coming. I though we were done with Susanne. I did find it odd that Huck and Quinn were going by her place so that should’ve been a warning.
– Don’t know what’s going on between Jake and Fitz, I guess they’re best buds again. They’re kind of where they started when we were first introduced to Jake– him spying on Olivia for Fitz. I’m just glad Liv is doing her own thing for the moment.
– We’re finally getting the faux wedding from Cyrus which I actually forgot about. That should be interesting.
