SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
It was mostly about Cyrus this episode and we get a little more insight on his history. Does he marry Michael? Check out the recap below!
We get flashbacks of Cyrus around the time of his first marriage. We see when he proposed to his first wife Janet after only knowing each other for a few months. On his wedding day we see that Cyrus had a thing with a guy, Ronny, and tells him that whatever they had is over and he’s not going to get sick because he couldn’t control himself.
We move ahead a little bit to when Fitz won his campaign and Janet asks him for a divorce because she’s lonely with him. Cyrus begs her not to leave so he can be a congressman but she pretty much tells him that she’s been having an affair and she knows he’s gay. We move forward a little more to his second wedding day with James. He promises James who’s a little concerned about being seen as only “Cyrus husband the jounalist” that he will never make him feel like his lap dog.
Fitz wants to know who came up with the idea for Mellie to speak out about supporting marriage equality and Abby tells him it was Olivia. He tells her to tell the press that his views on gay marriage remain the same. When Michael hears that his parents have been invited he freaks out and asks if they can be left out of it but Cyrus tells him to stop being a baby. Sally now has a talk show and she’s coming for Cyrus telling her viewers that she believes his marriage is a sham to save face and she’ll pay a hefty amount to the person who can give her proof that it is.
Lizzie is upset with Mellie for agreeing to Olivia’s idea without consulting with her first. Mellie rips into her and tells her that she works for her and her job is to fix things.Meanwhile, Cyrus doesn’t think Sally’s threats will hold but Liv thinks they need to take this seriously. She asks Michael if he has any secrets and he tells her he doesn’t. OPA try to figure out who could be feeding Sally info and they find out it’s Leo. Abby confronts Leo about it and he tells her that she shouldn’t of told him anything to begin with.
Huck and Abby find out that Michael has been having an affair and that the guy plans to go on Sally’s show to talk to her. … wants to call the wedding off but Olivia tells her it will be a publicity nightmare and no one is doing anything until she says so. She goes to Fitz and asks him to sign a document for insurance against Sally and he does. Olivia goes to the set of Sally’s show and takes the offer of the Secretary of State to her but Sally isn’t biting and tells her that her seat on her show is the real seat of power.
The following day Olivia sees Cyrus and realizes that he doesn’t want to go through with it. She asks the team how do they stop Sally. She pays her another visit and tells her that she will tell the world about her husband’s sexual preference and shows her proof that he was one of Michael’s regular customers. Sally goes on her show and tells them that the interview has been cancelled and had been made up.
On Cyrus and Michael’s wedding day Michael expresses his true emotions that he has nothing and Cyrus hates him. Cyrus tells him that he’s not going to lie to him because that’s how his previous marriages started. He tells him that they won’t fall in love and he sees him for who he is therefore he can’t break him.He also tells him that he’s a good person and he promises that he will do his best to be his someone so he’s not alone. And then they get married.
Some takeaways…
– We find out when and why Fitz gave Olivia her ring. There was actually a few exchanges between them involoving this ring which means it won’t be long before we get an Olitz moment. Not going to lie, I haven’t really been missing them.
– It was nice to see a little bit more history on Cyrus. It was a decent episode but I’m ready for a little more action.
– Next week it looks like Jake has gone crazy. In the previews he threatens that if anyone comes after him he’ll kill them then kill Olivia. Next week is going to be cray!
