SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
I’m pretty sure a lot of us went into this episode knowing a decent outline of what would happen. Of course, we couldn’t get through it without a few twists and turns. Read about it all in the recap below!
Oliver, Maseo and Tatsu are staking out Shrieve who is combining the Alpha and Omega arming the bio weapon. The three of them get in a car to follow them and it turns into a dangerous high speed chase. Oliver jumps from their car to the truck and fights the soldiers while Tatsu gets control of the wheel. Oliver grabs the suitcase but it’s empty. They find out that the bio weapon is being transported through the food at the market and during a fight to take the vial and falls and breaks on the ground.
Saving Thea
So Thea is still alive after being stabbed through the chest/abdomen with a sword and tries to reach for the phone but Oliver finds her and calls 911. At the hospital they try to revive her with the defibrillator but she flat lines so they do CPR and her heart starts beating again. The doctor tells Oliver that due to the extent of her injuries he might want to pursue other options. Oliver goes in to see her and breaks down as Malcolm arrives and quickly gets emotional.
Diggle and Felicity arrive at the hospital when Oliver sees smoke in the distance. Diggle thinks they need to come up with a plan but Oliver tells him that he’s already won. Oliver confronts Maseo with a punch and Maseo tells him that he can still save Thea if he takes Ra’s place as Heir to the demon. Diggle, Felicity and Malcolm return to the apartment to find Oliver packing and he tells them there’s a way for him to save Thea. Malcolm tells them it’s true and tells them that the Lazarus Pit changes people from the sole so she’d be a completely different person. Felicity tells him that he’s not going alone.
Felicity goes to Ray to ask for a favor asking to use his jet. Ray uses this as an opportunity to tell her that his eyes are wide open and he knows she still has feelings for Oliver. Felicity apologizes and he lets her use the jet. Meanwhile, Oliver and Malcolm move Thea under the pretense that she’s transferring hospitals. Malcolm thinks they should stop by STAR Labs first and see if there’s anything they can do but Oliver believes this is way past what they’re capable of dealing with. Malcolm tells him that he loves Thea but he would rather lose her than subject her to the pit.
Thea lives
On the ride to Nanda Parbat, Oliver tells Felicity about the time he came to Starling City before they found him on the island. He tells her about what he did to Thea’s dealer at the time and that all he ever wanted to do was protect her and he failed. When they arrive at Nanda Parbat the League is waiting and Ra’s welcomes him home. Diggle and Maseo have a little chat and Diggle calls him out for being a bad friend and calling him weak. Maseo tells him not to presume to know him until he’s held his dying child in his arms. Diggle apologizes and then asks him if his son would be proud of him right now. Inside they prepare for the ritual and they hoist Thea over the pit and lower her in and after like five seconds she jumps out growling. She attacks Oliver before she’s injected with something that puts her to sleep.
When Thea wakes she tells Oliver that she doesn’t know him, that he’s dead but she knows Malcolm is her dad. She then asks for her mother and Malcolm tells her to go back to sleep. Malcolm confronts Oliver about what he’s done and Felicity freaks out because she thinks this is all done. She then goes and confronts Ra’s telling him that what he’s doing to Oliver she’s not going to let it happen. Ra’s shares about the time he loved a woman before he was confronted with a horrible choice. He decided to spare them pain and left without saying goodbye. He tells her that all of her fighting would only delay the inevitable and that she should take this time now to express to Oliver how she really feels before he’s lost to her forever.
Goodbye Oliver Queen
Felicity goes to talk to Oliver and he tells her that the person he used to be died on the boat and all he knows is that everything that’s happened has led him to this moment but he doesn’t know what it was all for. Felicity tells him that she knows and tells him not to regret a single moment. He’s changed so many lives including hers and she then confesses her love for him which leads to the moment that every Olicity fan has been waiting for… they finally do the do (side note, this seemed like a really long scene). Afterwards, they share a drink and toast to each other and Oliver drinks and starts to pass out as Felicity apologizes and tells him that she won’t lose him.
Felicity tells Diggle and Malcolm but Malcolm thinks she’s trying to get them all killed. She tells him that he’s the only one who would know a way out of there. He tells them they can escape through the temple but it’ll be ruff. They fight they’re way out with some help from Maseo. While in he tunnels Thea starts freaking out as more guards show up. Oliver wakes up and tells the guards to stand down and they listen. He thanks them for trying but there’s only one way to end things. He escorts them to the entrance where he gives them all an emotional sendoff.
Ra’s is pissed and wants to go after Oliver’s friends but Oliver tells him that he stayed. Ra’s want to know who the traitor is who helped them but Oliver doesn’t know. Maseo steps up and tells him it was him and gives him the sword to kill him. Ra’s tells him that Maseo betrayed him not Sarob and spares him telling him that Oliver will need him.
Ra’s tells Oliver he has to erase the memory of Oliver Queen and he goes through the ritual of being branded by fire on the back with what looks like an arrow. Ra’s officially names him Al Sah-him.
Some takeaways…
– I guess the logical question would be, what’s next? I don’t know, but it looks like Oliver is going after Nyssa and possibly Diggle.
– And what about Team Arrow, what are they going to do. This situation just creates more questions than answers. Like this one, are we not calling Oliver Oliver anymore? I don’t know how I feel about calling him Sah-him seeing as I had to turn on the subtitles to figure out how to spell it.
– Also, this show is called Arrow. Which I guess they worked around it by renaming Oliver Arrow but still. There are just so many pieces that I don’t even know what the end of this season looks like or what season 4 could look like. I do think it’ll be nice to see Thea and Malcolm bond without the threat of death.
