SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
There’s only one episode left this season and it’s been a very interesting ride. This episode we find out just what Foxtail is… kind of. Read all abut it in the recap below!
We open with Jake’s nightmares surrounding him almost dying. He wakes and wants to know who’s dealing with Russell but Olivia tells him it’s being handled. Quinn and Huck have him bound up across the hall torturing him. They have about three hours to get answers before Rowan calls to check and they try run a trace to try to pinpoint him. Olivia tells Russell he better start talking about Foxtail because what Huck and Quinn got planned for him is worse than death.
As they’re torturing him Rowan calls and Quinn and Huck debate answering. Quinn answers but Rowan hangs up just before the twelve second mark and they aren’t able to trace him. Olivia returns and Huck ungags him to get information about Foxtail but Russell has a cyanide pill hidden in his mouth and tries to swallow it but Huck gets it out with limited help from Liv who starts having flashback to her abduction.
Liv returns home and Jake asks her about the blood on her coat and lets her know he’s knows Russell is across the hall. He tells her torturing Russell won’t work because he’s like Jake, he’s been groomed to study her and the only difference is that Jake loves her. Liv tells him about the bathroom where she was held captive during her abduction and how she felt safe there because it was the only place where she could be alone.
The next day Jake goes over and asks Huck for some time with him and Huck leaves but wants him in the same condition when he returns. Jake unlocks one of his hands and gives him a beer and tells him he’s there because he’s curious; he’s never met any of Rowan’s other specially groomed men. Russell tells him that Rowan talks about Jake like he misses him and they both agree that he was the closest thing they had to a father and they laugh over shared memories and experiences. Jake tells him that he’s good and almost got him and should be proud but Russell tells him he’ll just be disappointed because he was caught. Jake tells him that’s the point of the game, he wants them to be caught by Olivia because that’s how he keeps control over her. Russell realizes what he’s saying and says that she never had a chance. He asks if he’ll look after her, Jake tells him he will and he tells him he can tie him back up and bring in Huck.
Susan pays a Navy ship a visit when she sees Amy Martin’s bruised wrist and pulls her aside to find out what happened to her. Amy tells her it was from a training accident but Susan isn’t buying it and takes her back to the White House where Cyrus freaks out. She tells them that she was raped but she never confessed to being raped and Cyrus and Fitz wants her to take her back because it’s not their place to intervene.
Susan turns to Olivia for help and she pays Amy a visit on base. Olivia tries to talk to Martin but she won’t budge so she asks Abby where the White House stands and she tells her Mellie’s senate race has no bearing on the White House’s decision and Amy doesn’t have any standing outside the military judicial system so Liv goes to the press and makes a case for there to be a civilian trial. It’s illegal to handle military issues outside of the military judicial system and Fitz stands by that but it starts to effect Mellie’s campaign and she doesn’t want to show that they support rape.
Olivia and Quinn meet with judge advocate general Virgil Plunkett who shows up late with a banged up head who’s is their lawyer to question Holly. Olivia thinks he was given to them as a set up for failure. During the questioning Liv can’t ask any questions so she writes them for Virgil to ask but Holly starts attacking Liv and denies having sexual relations with Amy because he wasn’t on the ship the night in question. After the questioning Quinn goes to have Plunkett ask for the security log records from the night in question when Abby shows up to help in secret because she doesn’t want to pretend she doesn’t have an opinion on the matter.
Liv gets a call from Amy who tells her that she needs to get her off the ship to get an abortion because she doesn’t want Holly to know there’s physical proof. Liv wants her to wait a few weeks but Amy doesn’t want to wait and they’re interrupted by one of the officers who demands Olivia leave and Amy gets back to work.
Amy gets restricted to the ship for conduct unbecoming and they come up with a plan to get her off the ship under a family medical emergency.
Mellie is three points down and Liz tells her she needs to go to Springfield but Mellie doesn’t want to because that’s where Jerry died. Liz tells her about her component and how going would effect her. Mellie isn’t a fan of the speech because it exploits her son’s death but Liz tells her they don’t have any other option since the White House stance on the rape issue is making her lose women voters.
Olivia brings Amy back to her place where they find out they were denied the ability to see the log records. Liv calls Fitz and rips him a new one but he tells her he can’t change over 200 years of legal processes. She tells him that the entire situation is wrong and they both agree their jobs suck and Liv goes with Amy to get an abortion.
Fitz and Mellie reminisce over Jerry and where he would be if he was still alive. He offers to go to Springfield with her but she tells him she needs to do it alone, she just doesn’t know what to say. He tells her that Liv would tell her to throw him under the bus and he lays out what she should do. He gets the logs to Olivia which prove Holly was where he said he was but Liv asks Captain Weaver where he was since his movements weren’t accounted for that evening. She tells them that she believes he was using Holly’s badge and threatens to get video footage but Holly has them escorted out.
Video footage leaks showing Holly brutally raping Amy and Holly confesses. Meanwhile, Mellie goes to Springfield and gives her speech about her thoughts on how Fitz handled the rape case and how she disagreed with how he handled things. Amy’s status is restored on the ship and she thanks Liv and Quinn for helping her. Quinn notices a picture of Virgil Plunkett and he’s not the one they’ve been interacting with. The faux Plunkett shows up at Liv’s neighbor’s house asking Huck to let him into Liv’s apartment. Huck turns to do it but he sticks him in the neck with a needle and unties Russell. Liv and Quinn return to the apartment to find Jake with Huck who’s still alive but unconscious while Mellie goes to meet with some high profile donor who happens to be Rowan and we hear one of the secret serviceman say Foxtail is secure.
Some takeaways…
– So is Foxtail Mellie… that’s kind of what I took from it.
– Not much to really say about this episode except that Rowan is always one step ahead of Liv and crew. Can he ever be taken down?
– Not quite sure what the finale will look like. The preview was just a bunch of shocked faces and it looks like Liv gets arrested. Oh, and Mama Pope is back.
