SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
We’ve survived another summer and we’re back for a fresh new season of Scandal! I told myself I wouldn’t get my hopes up because anything could happen but finally potential. Check out the season premiere recap below!
Olivia gets a call from the queen and she rushes to the site of a gruesome car accident where she finds Princess Emily dead in the middle of the street after being thrown from the flipped car. OPA, or Quinn and Liv, work to recover all of the images of the Princess Emily’s dead body. Running out of time Olivia suggests that they get ahead of it by having images taken of Prince Richard viewing her body in the morgue. At OPA while looking closer at photos of Princess Emily, Quinn realizes that the unidentified guy on a motorcycle isn’t a photographer but may have been the person to deliberately cause the crash.
Mellie is upset with Lizzie for stabbing her in the back by becoming Fitz chief of staff. Lizzie tells Mellie about herself while also telling her that Fitz won’t be by her side when she’s sworn in as senator. Olivia confronts Fitz about not attending Mellie’s ceremony and tells him that he owes her this. No one lets Abby know and she announces that he won’t be attending but he actually does. Mellie is ecstatic that Fitz showed up and tries to apologize about what happened to the jurors. She thinks that they’ll still be a team but Fitz quickly bursts hat bubble and serves her divorce papers. Mellie tells him that she won’t sign but he tells her that he’s done everything that he wanted to do and all she’s done is wave her hand. He tells her that she has more to lose than him and she will sign the papers.
David calls Liv and tells her that the Princess’s crash wasn’t an accident but an assassination. Liv and Quinn look closer at her life and come to the conclusion that she was having an affair with her bodyguard. Liv wants Fitz to go after Prince Richard since an American was killed on American soil. Fitz won’t budge and she realizes it’s because of the naval base. She pretty much tells him screw off and decides to go to the queen herself.
Lizzie connects the dots and realizes that Liv and Fitz are messing around again and tells Abby that she’s the one who’s been undermining Abby at the podium. Meanwhile, Mellie pays Cyrus a visit to try to get him to get back into the Whit House and he tells her he’s not helping her anymore. Mellie realizes it’s because if Fitz asks him to come back he doesn’t want to be associated with her and she tells him that Fitz hates them.
David hand delivers the princess’s autopsy report which reveals that she was pregnant. Liv takes this to the queen who asks her not to take it to the prince because he’s innocent and there will be no investigation. As the queen continues talking Liz realizes that she knew the princess was pregnant and had her killed because she wasn’t sure the baby would be the prince’s. Liv gets upset and attempts to leave to get justice but the queen quickly reminds her about the confidentiality agreement she signed. Liv goes around that and tells Prince Richard who gets his mother together and tells her that once they return home she will step down citing age and if she refuses he will tell the world what she did.
Fitz is upset because the prince seceding the queen closes any hope of the naval base and this turns into an argument over him giving Mellie divorce papers. Liv tells him that in order to make them work they need to have their business ready because once they’re in the spotlight they have to be strong enough not to break. He agrees to wait and they’re interupted by Abby who tells him that there’s something he needs to see. Sally is on her show telling the world that Fitz is having an affair with Olivia Pope with proof, security footage images, of Liv and Fitz canoodling in the White House. FINALLY ish just got real!
Some takeaways…
- I am ecstatic to finally seeing this Olitz shit being blown up and finally in the public. For a second I thought it was going to be the same old thing but finally there’s proof that they can’t lie their way out of. You gotta love old Sally Langston.
- I was happy to see Jake for the .5 seconds that he made an appearance. It should be interesting to see how he “fixes” Huck. Poor Huck. Hopefully he gets fixed quickly.
- I’m kind of thinking Lizzie and/or Abby were behind exposing Olitz and it’ll be interesting to see the battle lines drawn.
