SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
This is definitely the season for Olitz fans and I’m pretty sure they’re toasting they’re half full glasses of wine in bliss. If you thought this season was going to be the same old thing the writers have been proving us wrong. I’ve got all of the scoop in my recap below!
It’s a shit show at the White House because the public wants to hear from Fitz but he’s dealing with Mellie in his office. She wants him to apologize and tells him that he made Olivia a statue, America’s mistress and she can make everything right. She goes off on this spiel about how they’ll say say she was there with a boyfriend and deny everything Sally Langston is saying but she wants him to apologize for serving her divorce papers. He believes she’s the one who leaked the photos and only cares about her future presidential race but Fitz ain’t going and kicked her add out again.
Abby and Lizzie still try to get Fitz to make a statement but he won’t budge and has David looking for evidence that Mellie leaked the photos. Lizzie is over it and thinks Abby should make Fitz make a statement since Liv pretty much ditched him.
Over at OPA Jake and Huck show up to help but Quinn is still mad at Huck for killing a busload of innocent people. Jake tells her he’s with him so everything will be fine. They then find out that they took on a case.
Gavin Price has been accused of killing his father Walter and escaped after being let out on bail. Olivia has 28 hours to find him before the authorities find out he went missing. Since his accounts are frozen they track a watch he sold through consignment but while Liv is outside the shop she spots his truck outside a casino. She handcuffs (or foot cuffs) him to his seat and tells him to sit tight or she’ll call the police. Jake shows up to lend a hand and they interrogate him in the car. He tells them that they had an argument and later on he heard a noise and found him at the bottom of the stairs. He tells them that his stepmother Stephanie was having an affair and if the she cheated, according to the prenup, she wouldn’t get squat but now she’s inheriting a billion dollars.
A reporter shows up at OPA trying to get a statement and Huck is about to kill him but Quinn intervenes and jostles him up telling him he better leave or she’ll give him to Huck to die. They confirm that Gavin’s father had the will changed before he died meaning he may have known about the affair. Jake intervenes and tells Liv that at some point she has to leave and face everything, she wanted to be with Fitz.
Quinn calls Liv and tells her that it wasn’t Stephanie but Gavin that Walter was cutting out of his will. While she’s on the phone she gets attacked by a mob of diners wanting to take a picture with her. During all of this Gavin snags someone’s car keys and slips away. Liv and Jake wait at the motel for Quinn to hit them up with the location of the car Gavin stole. While waiting Liv uses this moment to ponder how she got to where she is. She tells Jake that she’s scared and she doesn’t know what to do but he tells her that we’re at our best when we’re scared. She’ll just know what to do.
Abby goes to Cyrus who thinks she’s done the right thing but she tells him that he doesn’t care about the presidency he cares about Olivia. He tells her that she knows Liv and she needs to tell him what Liv would want him to do. VP Susan gets Fitz together and asks him if he thought about the people who voted for him when he decided to have an affair in the White House. She tells him that he doesn’t get to be like anyone else.
Abby confronts Fitz and asks if he saw the photos of Liv in the diner and who she was with. She tells him that Liv will never tell him she’s okay living in a windstorm. David takes the files on Mellie’s computer to Abby since Fitz doesn’t want it and hints that there’s some dirt in the emails. Lizzie isn’t happy about Mellie being back in the White House and goes to fire Abby but Abby tells her that she knows she leaked the photos to Sally Langston. She asks what she wants and Abby tells her that all she wants is to be equals and no longer work for her.
After thinking about it he calls Mellie and apologizes telling her to come home. Quinn calls Liv and Jake with Gavin’s location and they find him at an abandoned house and Gavin breaks down about the names his father would call him and how he laughed at him. He tells them that he pushed him and the police come and scoop him up.
Quinn finds Huck at a bar and tells him that somethings wrong with her and somethings wrong with him so she pretty much shouldn’t be throwing stones. They then agree that they both missed each other. WE end with a montage of Fitz and Mellie getting ready for their interview to deny the affair (once again) while Liv returns to OPA to a mob of reporters asking if she’s the president’s mistress. After a short hesitation she tells them yes.
Some takeaways…
- Welp it looks like ish is going to heat up. I will say that I appreciate that they’re not going to do this back and forth thing between Fitz and Liv all season.
- I knew at least Lizzie was behind the leak, I thought maybe Abby would be too but at least we know she’s loyal.
- I’m glad they’re not going to drag the “Quinn is mad at Huck” thing out. That was getting old for me fast. It was also nice to see an entire team at OPA, I guess Jake is officially apart of the team… I don’t think we ever officially addressed that.
- Since Liv is owning up to this affair it looks like ish is about to get crazy and everyone is about to come for her. I cannot wait because it’s about damn time.
