SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
Not much happened during this episode but the aftermath that’s to follow should be interesting. I will say that Cyrus definitely stole the show for this episode. Check out the recap below!
Fitz lawyer Patricia stops tells them that he will testify and has them send over tons of boxes of files. Mellie thinks they’re trying to hide something but she’s told she has to recuse herself from the investigation because she’s too close to the situation. Meanwhile Leo is having a conniption fit because news has got out about the ring Fitz gave her which is a family heirloom. He tells her that Olive the every woman is out and she’s now going to sell their love story.
Mellie goes to see Cyrus and she tells him that she’s the one who leaked the information about the ring. He invites her to sit and binge eat while they watch all of the news coverage.
Moskowitz and Gibson snag Marcus off the street and threaten him into being their inside person, getting all of the information about Liv that he can. When he returns to OPA he finds Huck and Quinn trying to see who in Congress they can turn to their side and he goes back to Moskowitz and Gibson and tells them he’s in.
Liv stops by Jake’s place and tells him about how she has to try to sell her love story to America. He tells her that he doesn’t see the problem unless the issue is her and she realizes that if she tells this story she won’t have any other exits. He tells her to tell the truth and tell the world how she really feels about Fitz. Liv goes on TV and talks about her and Fitz and says that she wishes she never laid eyes on Fitz because of what her friends and family have been put through as a result of all of this. She also says she wishes that because she could also lose her business but if she’d never met him she’d never really fallen in love. She says that she tried to fight it and stop but she failed and she wears that ring as a reminder of her weakness.
Mellie tells Cyrus that she and Liv agree on the fact that she wishes she’d never met Fitz. He then apologizes for bringing her on to the campaign and how them meeting is his fault. Cyrus and Mellie are drunk and giddy when he gets a call from Fitz. He goes to the White House and Fitz tells him he wants him back on his team, not in the same position but in a high level position. Cyrus cuts to the chase and tells him that he’s only there because they know about the tape and he knows that this is all Liv’s idea. Fitz asks him if he’s going to come back and he asks him about how many times he mispronounced a name during the governor’s debate. He then asks him if he remembered a particular meal and tells him that all he knows is him but Fitz doesn’t know anything about him.
He’s just used to come in and save him and he declines the offer telling him that he doesn’t need him and goes to leave. Fitz stops him by telling him about a memory on the bus with an Agatha Christie book and how he knows he loves his mother. He then really apologizes and tells him his biggest mistake was forgetting they were family and tells him he can’t do this alone. Cyrus tells him the job he wants is Chief of Staff and Lizzie is fired immediately, he’ll only keep Abby and Ethan. He will also get a presidential pardon and he’ll keep the secret. He then tells him that he didn’t know anything about the tape and he didn’t even know Liv had been kidnapped and they shake on it.
Some takeaways…
- Not much to say here since not much happened except for Cyrus is officially back in the White House. I’m glad about that so he can stop acting like a looney on the sidelines. One thing’s for sure, Mellie is going to be pissed.
- It’s nice seeing Liv and Jake being just friends although Jake know he not right just dropping that wife bomb on her. I still don’t trust Elise and am waiting for someone to connect her to Rowan.
