SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
We’ve reached that time of the year when Scandal must go on hiatus. Before we officially get there, we had a few things to wrap up. Things get interesting in this winter finale and I’ve got the recap below!
Olivia is now the first lady and she’s not that happy about it. I mean the most she’s been asked to do, besides pretty much all of Fitz bidding, is to find out a recipe.
Mellie confronts the men of the senate about the Planned Parenthood bill because she’s found some errors. She tells them she can’t vote for it but she’s pretty much told her vote doesn’t matter. They go to vote on the bill but Mellie tells them she has something to say and tells them she’s not going to vote against women’s health and pulls out a stack of bills that don’t have discretionary funds.
Mellie’s bill hold up has made the news and if the bill doesn’t pass it can shut down the government. Cyrus and Abby tell Fitz he needs to stay far away from it and suggest bringing Liv in but Fitz tells them she’s busy. He unloads his frustrations on Liv telling her he thinks she’s trying to sink him but she tells him that maybe what she’s doing isn’t about him at all. Liv sees footage about how the way Mellie could go to the bathroom would be if someone asked a very long question and she tries to get Senator Moskowitz to do it but she tells her no way. VP Susan comes to Mellie’s rescue and enters asking her to yield the floor so she can ask a lengthy question giving her the chance to go to the bathroom.
While finishing in the bathroom she comes face to face with Liv and Mellie tells her that she can’t do it. Liv tells her she can hold out just a couple of more hours and wishes her luck. Mellie heads back and apologizes to everyone and thanks them for sticking around because now millions of women get another year of guaranteed healthcare.
Liv misses the cabinet dinner because she went to get an abortion. She returns to the White House and tells Fitz she tried to make it to the dinner but something came up. He accuses her of running but she tells him she didn’t go because she didn’t want to go. She tells him that she believes he moved her in as some type of hostage all because of her father when she did what she did for him. He tells her that she did that for herself and they tell each other how they really feel. He tells her that she’s worse than Mellie and he tells her he was trying to save them but she tells him there is no them, not anymore. He tells her she liked him unavailable and she tells him she didn’t know him available because Mellie did that part, she didn’t have to. They both come to the conclusion that they tried and she moves out.
Quinn has been trying to find Huck but he hasn’t returned any of her calls. Marcus is all about the Christmas cheer but Quinn tries to tell him that they don’t really do that around OPA; the work. Huck still has Rowan held hostage and is even supplying him with necessary meals. Rowan tries to figure out what his angle is but Huck isn’t going. Jake tracks a bruised Tom and sees him get into the car with Franklin and listens in on their conversation about needing to find Rowan because he’s the only one who can stop Lazarus One.
Huck lets Rowan ask him a question and he asks him why did he save him. He then starts talking about his many sons and then brings up Javi. This riles Huck up and he chokes Rowan up but then stops himself and asks him if he saw everything the media said about Liv. He taunts him about how she chose Fitz over him and tells him he failed and he’s no one’s father.
Jake sneaks up on Franklin and tells him to get on his knees. He tries to convince him that they need him to help with Lazarus One but Jake isn’t here for it because he killed Elise. As Franklin continues to talk Jake shoots him in the head. Huck tells Rowan that he’s going to spend time with his family and tells him he’s only alive because of Olivia. He drops him off at home and Jake comes out of the shadows and tells him he was right, Lazarus One wasn’t him, and Rowan tells him welcome home and invites him in.
Some takeaways…
- I know I said in the recap that Liv got an abortion even though she never actually says it. I mean, why else would a pointy scrapper go up your vagina?
- Can we talk about VP Susan? I really love calling her that. David gone have her stalking him, I mean it’s pretty clear she’s into him. Apparently Lizzie is really feeling him too. David just can’t keep the ladies off of him this season.
- Glad that Liv is out the White House because I don’t think I could’ve taken more than one episode of that. So I guess this means Olitz is officially done… most likely not.
- Totally random seeing Franklin again. Not really random but he did kind of come out of nowhere just to die.
- Poor Jake, he’s just all in his feeling and don’t know what to do. Now he’s back under Rowan’s wing. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out.
