SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
Has it come to this? Are we losing a key member of Team Arrow? Things start of crazy, get sweet then wind out of control again during the Arrow winter finale. I’ve got it all in the recap below!
Taiana leads Oliver to the water where he goes off on his own to swim into the cave/cove. He retrieves a sort of scroll and barely gets out of the water after getting bit by a shark. Conklin shows up and blows Oliver’s cover finding out that Taiana is still alive.
Attack by the Bay
Oliver gets a great turnout for cleaning up the Bay also helping his approval rating go up. While there a drone comes out of nowhere and starts shooting at the volunteers. Felicity is able to disable it remotely leaving multiple people in critical condition. Oliver doesn’t want to give a statement until they have a solid plan to take down Darhk. He believes the Bay is important to him and they need to find out why. Diggle goes to talk to his brother Andy to see if he can get anything out of him. Andy is not budging regardless of every attempt Diggle makes to try to convince him to talk.
Felicity returns home to find her mother surrounded by Hanukkah decorations. Donna ends up finding Oliver’s engagement ring and spills the beans to Felicity. Meanwhile, Oliver makes a live statement telling the city that the ghosts leader is Damien Darhk and asks the city to help him catch him. Oliver wants to cancel his campaign holiday party but everyone convinces him that they shouldn’t let Darhk stop them from celebrating. Malcolm asks Thea to be careful until he can figure out exactly what they’re dealing with in relation to Darhk and she promises.
At the party we meet Curtis husband and while talking to them about their engagement she realizes that Oliver was going to propose three months ago. She goes to tell her mom and finds her locking lips with Quentin. Donna asks her why he didn’t propose then and she asks him. He tells her that everything changed when they came back to Star City and he needed time to think about it. They’re interrupted by Darhk and his crew wanting to talk to Oliver. Oliver asks him to let the people go but he tells him he’s going to punish the ones he loves the most. He throws him across the room and snatches up Felicity, Thea and Diggle.
Oliver comes too and immediately jumps into action trying to find Darhk. After beating up a bunch of ghosts who don’t know anything he returns to the lair where Laurel tries to tell him that it’s not his fault and they can take care of themselves. Laurel finds out through the tipline that Quentin has been working with Darhk. He tells her that he was but is now undercover and they get a text from Oliver telling them to meet him. Malcolm shows up with one of the ghosts phone but they don’t have Felicity to trace it. Oliver believes their only play is to trade him for everyone else.
Oliver meets with Darhk and tells him he’s made his point but he tells him hasn’t yet. He shows him a chamber and tells him that he was using the Bay to collect a particular algae that aids in a chamber he’s been constructing. He takes him to see Felicity where she tells him that they all make their own decisions and compares they’re life to marriage telling him that if he would’ve asked her she would’ve said yes. He’s then brought back to the chamber where Darhk puts Thea, Diggle and Felicity in the chamber.
He turns on the chamber and Laurel and Malcolm (dressed as the Green Arrow) show up. Laurel uses the canary voice to break the glass while Malcolm goes after Darhk. Darhk gets the upper hand and is about to kill him when Oliver knocks him down. The prisoners are released and start attacking everyone else when Quentin shows up with the police. Darhk is beating the shit out of Oliver when Malcolm finally regains himself and shoots him with two arrows. He then has Oliver get clear before shooting a bomb arrow blowing up the place.
Everyone is skeptical that Darhk actually died in the explosion but they’ve stopped him for now. Diggle pays Andy another visit but he’s still being stubborn. He tells him since he wants to be a ghost they’ll treat him like one. Meanwhile, Darhk is alive and well an takes him comrades and shows them that they are on plan and ready for phase for. The gang then heads to an outdoor holiday rally at the Bay and Oliver takes the opportunity to propose to Felicity and she says yes. While on they’re way home they’re car is stopped and attacked by gunfire killing the driver. Oliver covers Felicity but moves to drive the car out of the line of fire and she gets hit by multiple bullets.
Some takeaways…
- Welp, I think we all knew this was coming. I mean they haven’t officially said that Felicity is dead and it could still be someone else in that grave but I’m going to go with my original prediction that she is the one we lose. I mean, it’s your basic story angle. The hero gets the girl, they get comfortable and lovey dovey and then he loses the girl.
- I hope this doesn’t turn Oliver back into super dark Ollie. I’ve been enjoying the semi light Oliver this season.
- I don’t know how Diggle is holding it together because I would’ve been snapped on Andy. I can’t wait to see what the story is behind that.
- The flashback kind of sucked. I needed a little bit more.
- So if Felicity dies does that mean Curtis joins the team? I mean, we still need someone to handle all of the tech.
