SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
We get a little more history on the Diggle brothers this episode and it’s a welcome change. All of this in the midst of Felicity dealing with her new disability. It’s all in the recap below!
It’s a Diggle flashback and we see Diggle and Andy are in the army fighting side by side. After taking down two men Lieutenant Joyner makes a shady offer to Andy to join a rogue army team but he turns him down. Later that night Diggle sees him canoodling with Joyner and freaks out but he tells him he’s staying clean and to trust him. Joyner calls Andy in and gives him extra money introducing him to Reiter.
An Eye for and Eye
Diggle and Lyla are out on a date when they’re interrupted by Allen from ARGUS. He tries to give her a message but he’s snatched by a group of unidentified men with guns. Felicity is back home and wheelchair bound but tells Oliver she doesn’t think she’s ready to come back just yet. He gets news of Diggle’s attack and heads to the lair. The team turns to more conventional ways to try to find out why Allen was kidnapped since Felicity isn’t there.
Felicity is hearing voices in her head and it turns out to be her goth rock self. Her younger brunette self fills her head with doubt pretty much telling her that her poor choices led to her being in a wheelchair.
Laurel calls Diggle to a crime scene to have him identify the body which turns out to be a one eyed Allen. Lyla and Diggle go to Amanda Waller to find out what Allen was working on but she’s being tight lipped. She shakes Lyla’s hand goodbye handing off a flash drive. Back at the lair the team pulls up the files connecting Allen and two other agents to Shadowspire. Diggle recognizes it in relation to Andy and goes to talk to him. Andy tells him he has no connection to them anymore but Diggle doesn’t believe him. Andy tells him he cn help them find the two missing agents and tells him where he can find them.
Team Arrow gets to the location but the tech is too advanced so they call in Felicity for help. She unlocks the containers while the team holds back Shadowspire. They find two two missing agents dead in the container. Oliver tells Laurel and Thea to run but gets trapped in a container, that Felicity can’t get him out of, leaving Diggle vulnerable. He comes face to face with an old wartime enemy, Lieutenant Joyner, but before his cover is blown Oliver escapes from the container helping Diggle escape.
Oliver returns home to find Felicity beating herself up over what happened. He tells her that it wasn’t her fault and apologizes for pushing her when she wasn’t ready. She tells him she can no longer be a part of the team because of her injury. He tells her she needs to give it time but she chokes up when her brunette self shows up in the background over talking everything positive Oliver is saying. She freaks out telling her to shut up and leave her alone and he thinks that she’s talking to him.
Diggle transfers Andy to ARGUS for debriefing on Shadowspire. He tells them that Shadowspire is after something else and has just been distracting them. Oliver tells Laurel that he feels responsible for what happened to Felicity because Barry traveled through time and he changed the timeline.
Brunette Felicity gets real with Felicity and tells her to stop pretending to be someone she’s not. She tells her that she’s not a “superhero” and the only thing it’s gotten her is in a wheelchair. Brunette Felicity is kind of rude…
The team goes to where Shadowspire is supposed to show up for the rail guns but it turns out to be a distraction. Shadowspire uses Allen’s missing eye to get into ARGUS taking Waller, Lyla and everyone else by surprise. Joyner tells Waller he’s there for Rubicon codes and kills one of her agents giving her 20 minutes to tell him what it is before he kills another one.
Diggle is watching from a monitor and tries to rig it so he can get in touch with Oliver. Andy tells him he doesn’t have time for that and to trust him but Diggle is too distracted. Back at the lair, Oliver tries to get in touch with Diggle to no avail when Felicity shows up. She tells him that she wants to come back and what happened to her isn’t his fault and they’re going to get Darhk.
They get a live feed from ARGUS realizing that they’ve been compromised. The signal alerts Shadowspire of a breach and Joyner has one of his men go down there. Running out time Waller tells Joyner that she doesn’t make decisions based on human life and he asks Lyla if that’s true. She tells him it is and he kills Waller telling Lyla she now has less than 2o minutes to tell him what the Rubicon code is. Diggle sees that Waller has been killed and tries to go up there but Andy tells him Joyner is going to kill Lyla unless he trusts him.
Oliver and team arrive at ARGUS and Felicity , new code name Overwatch, gets them in. Joyner’s men find Andy locked up alone and he tells them he’s an old acquaintance. He pretty much throws Diggle under the bus telling him that Lyla is his sister in law. Joyner’s men catch Diggle and he puts a gun to his head telling him to tell Lyla to give him the codes. He tells her to do it and Felicity tries to lock the codes out. Joyner is about to shoot Diggle but Andy knocks the gun out of his hand just as Oliver drops in. It turns into a fight scene and Oliver, Diggle, Lyla and Andy take down Joyner and his crew.
Back home Felicity pulls out a box of stuff filled with her old self and Oliver tells her she’s not that person anymore. She lights the picture on fire and Oliver takes the opportunity to tell her that while they shouldn’t live in denial they do live in a time where they’ve both seen extraordinary things. He tells her that he will find a way for her to walk again.
Some takeaways…
- So I definitely wasn’t expecting for Amanda Waller to die. I actually wasn’t expecting to see her anytime soon, let alone dead. RIP, Waller, RIP.
- Glad that Felicity is having a pity party and was able to pull herself up and get back into action. I mean, do we really think she’s going to be wheelchair bound for long?
- Nice to see Andy being a bit nicer and Diggle a bit softer with each other. Hopefully Andy stays on the straight and narrow and doesn’t divert back off course.
- While this was a good episode I’m ready to get back into the Darhk action. I’m really liking him as a villain this season and I need more.
