SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
A familiar face helps the team stop this week’s big bad, we meet another member of Felicity’s family and Thea’s dealing with the aftermath of the pit. It’s all in the recap below!
Reiter tortures Oliver by electric shock to get answers as to what he was doing with the maps. The men start dropping like flies from arrow shots and it’s Shadow who tells him it’s not real he’s having a vision. She tells him he needs to change and the only way out is through Oliver, his own darkness that he needs to let go. He tells her he doesn’t know how and she tells him she will teach him. She tells him that the way to be free is to tell Taiana the truth. When he wakes from his fever he tells her that he’s the one who killed her brother.
All in the Eyes
We open where Nyssa is being held captive and she is visited by a woman who claims to be giving her food. She actually delivers a mini knife and Nyssa uses it to breakout and take down the guards. She then visits Tatsu in Japan to discuss Lotus and they have a sword fight but she tells her that she needs to listen to what she has to say.
Meanwhile the team are in the middle of stopping a robber when Thea corners him on the rooftop but ends up passing out. Oliver thinks he should’ve been keeping a better eye on her and her bloodlust.Oliver returns home to find Thea awake and Malcolm angry. He tells them that if she doesn’t indulge her bloodlust then it will take from the host. He also tells him about Darhk’s being able to blunt the lust but they’re interrupted by a call from the team telling him their robber is at it again. Oliver goes to his location and chases him on foot before catching up to him and pulling him down. He snatches off his mask revealing Roy (enter my geeky happy dance here) who uses the element of surprise to punch him and escape.
Felicity has to give a presentation on Curtis new technology but fumbles at the dry run. One of the board members suggests she let someone else do the presentation, preferably someone not in a wheelchair so that they can put their best foot forward.
Back at the lair the team tries to figure out why Roy is stealing from tech companies. Oliver gets a call from Alex who tells him that there’s a new opponent in the race by the name of Ruve Adams. Oliver pays her a visit as Green Arrow and tells her to tell Darhk to meet him the following day. Felicity figures out that the two pieces of tech Roy stole work together as a “Web Nuke” to destroy the internet. The only piece he’s missing is a revolutionary battery which Curtis just invented.
Roy comes at Curtis from behind and Curtis holds up pretty well in defending himself but Roy gets the upper hand. He grabs the tech and is about to escape but Oliver comes bursting through the window with Diggle and Laurel entering on the other side. Oliver tells him to stand down but there’s clearly something wrong with him. He’s about to make an escape when Felicity tells Oliver to shoot him with a tranq arrow.
Back at the lair Felicity removes a piece of tech disguised as a contact that she noticed because his eyes are a different color. Roy wakes and tells them that his cover was blown and someone by the name of the Calculator who threatened to go to the police if he didn’t help him steal the tech.
Felicity runs the tech backwards to where it originated and she gets in contact with the originator. They banter back and forth through the computer while she tries to pinpoint his location. He eventually blocks her out but not before letting them know that his plan is to take down the city. She tries to pinpoint a location where the “web nuke” would do the most damage and realizes that Ray invented something called the Battering Ram.
Roy goes to see Thea but she starts to have an attack as the wound from Ra’s al Ghul appears. Oliver stops by to see her and tells her that he set up a meeting with Darhk and there may be something he’s willing to trade to help them. She tells him that he can’t fix it and it’s her decision how she handles it. Malcolm tells him pretty much the same thing and tells him the greatest act of love is no action at all.
Felicity finds out his location and sends it to Oliver who is at the location where he’s supposed to meet Darhk. The team, along with a suited Roy, head to the location and take down the Calculator’s team while Felicity tries to stop the Web Nuke. Oliver drops in just in time to help, foregoing his meeting with Darhk, and the Calculator goes to set off the device but he can;t. Felicity tells them that they have to blow up the nuke to stop it and Roy decides to be the one to do it even though it means he has to hightail it out of there if he doesn’t want to get blown to pieces. He shoots the arrow into the nuke right before the Calculator tries to set it off and escapes unharmed as the place blows up.
Roy tells them that he can’t stay even though Felicity wiped all of the evidence the Calculator had on him. Felicity ends up doing the presentation, thanks to a little push from Curtis, and it goes over well. The Calculator is in attendance but they don’t know that he’s him but we find out that he’s actually Felicity’s father (plot twist).
Oliver goes to check on Thea but he finds out she’s in a coma. Nyssa visits him in the hospital room and tells him that she knows a way to save Thea but if he wants it he has to kill Malcolm.
Some takeaways…
- Roy! Oh how I’ve missed him. Can he just come back… seriously. Once we got past the tech eye bit I was all smalls. Things just felt right again.
- We finally meet Felicity’s dad! It will be interesting to see their dynamic and how his calculating ways (see what I did there) play into the storyline.
- While Darhk was obviously missing, we get back Nyssa who’s out for Malcolm’s blood. What better way to do that then to have Oliver do the dirty work. Oliver and Malcolm have been at each other’s throats since season one. I have enjoyed the temporary truce they’ve called this season so it will be interesting to see if Oliver kills Malcolm once and for all. I have a feeling that that might not happen.
