SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
We’re back and we find everyone in a slightly different place from where we last left off. There’s a little back stabbing, a steamy make out scene and some unexpected alliances. It’s all in the recap below!
Huck stops by Liv’s place to tell her they have a new client, one that they can’t talk about over the phone. Diane Peters is the director of the NSA and she’s been hacked by someone who’s looking for the files on Project Mercury. OPA believes the attack came from inside the house and narrow it down to Billy her boyfriend but Diane is adamant it’s not him. The team is believes he definitely did it and work to figure out if he’s a spy or a whistle blower.
Cyrus calls Liv asking for an opinion but she tells him those days are over. She’s about to hang up but he tells her it’s about Abby and if she can handle the work. She tells him she can be he needs to be sure before he gives it up.
Liv returns to the office to find Mellie waiting for her with a manuscript of a book she wrote on her life. She asks her to read it but Liv tells her she’s not going to work for her.
Abby finds out that there’s a whistle blower trying to hand over info to the Post. Abby freaks out and tells Fitz that if the Post gets the documents everyone will know they’ve been spying on foreign leaders, among other things. She calls Liv to cancel their dinner and asks her what she knows about Project Mercury while also telling her about the Post.
Fitz calls in Jake and tells him about the Post possibly getting their hands on Project Mercury and asks him to find out who the whistle blower is. Jake asks him if he still talks to Liv and he tells him he doesn’t asking him the same question. Jake lies and tells him he doesn’t and he’s just there to do the job.
Abby confronts Cyrus after dealing with multiple middle of the night calls from Fitz and asks him if he’s punishing her. Cyrus lets her vent then tells her that she’s Fitz’s new work wife. He doesn’t know how to function without a wife, Liv and Mellie are gone and he can’t be it anymore. He tells her that he can’t help her and she needs to find her own footing.
Huck finds a location for Billy and Quinn and Marcus go to check it out. Instead of Billy they come face to face with Jake. Liv confronts him about it but he tells her they’re not working together on it and her client is going down for the leak. Liv goes to Diane’s house and finds out that she’s officially under investigation. Liv tells her that a call to the Post was found on Billy’s phone and she asks if they’re going to fire her. She asks Liv to talk to the president but she doesn’t believe it’s a good idea. She asks her to do it for women.
Abby stops by Liv’s and unloads all of her feelings on her and asks if she misses Fitz. Liv tells her that she doesn’t and Abby tells her that she can’t feel sorry for the lonely bachelor. Liv tells her that he’s not lonely but alone because he lost everyone. She then tells her that she needs to call him for a client but Abby tells her that she’s doesn’t want to call because she’s afraid she’ll have to owe him something.
Quinn tells Liv that the whistle blower is not Billy and she calls Abby to see who the replacement is. They go back to the location where they ran into Jake and they find Billy dead and stuffed in the refrigerator. Liv tells them that Jake killed him and we find out that Jake is now the new director of the NSA.
Liv goes to Rowan’s house and confronts Jake about killing Billy. He tells her the world is a safer place and Rowan interjects and tells her that Diane was weak. He tells her that she can join them and get some real power or she can continue to sit on the sidelines but he knows her so that won’t suffice.
Abby finally reaches her breaking point and confronts Fitz about what exactly her job is. She tells him that she’s not a companion animal and tells him that she’s always available if he actually needs her.
Liv calls Mellie into her office telling her that she read her book but it’s a bore and she shouldn’t publish it because it screams that she wants to be the president. She tells her that she needs to write a book about her real life which will be hard but people will read it and it will make her president. Mellie tells her she wants to write that book and Liv tells her they’ll start the next day.
Some takeaways…
- So that scene when Liv confronts Jake about killing Billy and Rowan tells her he knows his daughter just like he knows his son. Uh, kind weird but okay.
- I love that, so far, we’re not jumping right back into old routines with Olitz. If you’ve been reading my recaps for awhile then you know how I feel about Olitz so I’m here for these changes.
- I think I kind of like that Rowan and Jake are in cahoots and it’s going to make for a very interesting second half of the season.
- Oh Huck trying to save Marcus from him and Quinn, I mean you can’t fault him at least he has good intentions.
- So Liv and Mellie will be working together. As long as we have the Mellie that’s put together then I’m here for the ride. I do expect a lot of drama though.
