SPOILER ALERT! (stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens in this episode)
After a short hiatus we’re back and things are definitely not the same. Oliver and Felicity are at odds, Cupid is back and Darhk is on trial. It’s all in the recap below!
Oliver follows Conklin’s sprit through the tunnel with Reiter, Taiana and crew following. Once in the tunnel they come across a statue and Reiter tells them about what happened to his village. He kills one of the hostages and his “spirit” floats out into the statue which lights up giving him control and Reiter orders his men to shoot the prisoners. Oliver and Taiana steal the statue and escape into the tunnel.
It’s Cupid, Stupid
During Damien Darhk’s hearing his lawyer pleads to dismiss the case because he was being held captive and is actually Kenneth Bender. The judge tells them that they will hold a preliminary hearing so that the state can meet its burden of truth.
Felicity is fully walking and has packed all of her stuff to move out of Oliver’s apartment. After a night out the team returns and Laurel tells them that every witness they could’ve had has disappeared. Thea suggests that she, Diggle and Felicity testify but Felicity breaks the news the she and Oliver are no longer together.
Oliver gets called to a crime scene by Lance because Cupid is back and she’s murdering couples. She’s left her victims lying in the shape of a heart with a note that says “love is dead”. Back at the lair Thea tells them that Cupid’s victims are a celebrity couple who were planning to have a very big wedding.
At the trial, Diggle testifies about when Darhk kidnapped him, Thea and Felicity. During cross, Darhk’s lawyer brings up Diggle helping Thea buy cocaine. After Diggle public shaming, Laurel tells them that they need to find a witness that Darhk can’t tear a part. They get a call from Felicity telling them that Cupid kidnapped another celebrity couple.
The team goes after her and Oliver comes face to face with Cupid who he’s able to to restrain. As he turns to free the couple she breaks free and escapes out of the window. Back at the lair Felicity believes Cupid targeting happy couples make sense to Cupid because love failed her. Oliver tells them to hit the streets to track Cupid and Diggle and Thea confront him telling him he needs to tell Felicity that he still loves her.
Laurel is still having problems finding witness and Quentin tells her that he wants to take the stand even without immunity. He tells her he wants to own up to what he did but she tells him that if he testifies he needs to say he was under duress because Darhk threatened her life.
Felicity finds out a possible location for Cupid from the fabric confiscated from the kidnapping. The team heads to a wedding dress warehouse where they find her shrine of happy celebrity couples wedding announcements. Thea finds a clipping of his and Felicity’s wedding announcement and he tells Felicity they need to get married so that they don’t sacrifice anymore innocent lives.
Felicity isn’t here for being in the line of fire but Thea steps in and tells them she can leak the news to bloggers. Oliver tells them that he’s going to call their wedding venue that he was supposed to cancel telling Felicity he hasn’t yet because then it means it’s over. She tells him it is over.
Quentin testifies against Darhk telling the court everything Darhk wanted him to do with many objections from Darhk’s lawyer. Quentin tells the court he did everything he did because Darhk threatened to have Laurel killed. During cross he tells Darhk’s lawyer that he wouldn’t be ruining his career and possibly ending his life to lie.
At the faux wedding they say vows and Oliver uses that opportunity to tells her how her presence in his life changed him for the better, and while he may not deserve her trust he will never lie to her again. They’re interrupted by Cupid who tells Oliver that love means he’s soft and shoots him in the chest with an arrow. She then pulls out a trigger to set off a bomb.
Oliver gets up and tells her that he’s wearing kevlar under his tux. Cupid tells them that no matter what love always ends in death which is why it’s in the vows. Felicity tells her love is real and if she dies that’s okay because she was able to experience. She tells her that their love gives her life meaning and purpose and more joy than she can ever take away from them. Not quite convinced, Cupid is about to pull the trigger when Diggle and Thea intervene stopping her. The trigger falls out of her hand and Thea restrains her followed by Oliver shooting her with a tranquilizer.
As Cupid is carted off she thanks Felicity for giving people hope. Oliver asks her if they can talk that night but she tells him it’s not a good time and he proposes the next day. The judge makes her decision and tells the court based on Quentin’s compelling testimony Darhk’s motion to dismiss is thrown out. Quentin is suspended pending further investigation.
Oliver is at the lair watching news footage when Felicity pops in to pick something up. He tells her that everything he said at the ceremony he meant but she tells him that what she said doesn’t apply to him. She tells him she loves him but she can’t marry him. He tells her that it is them and swears to her that he will never lie to her again. She tells him that she knows there will come a situation where he’ll have to lie to her again because that’s their life. She was wrong that they could have a life together and tells him that she’s done. He doesn’t need her on the team and there’s no fixing their relationship.
Some takeaways…
- I think that was as close to an Olicity wedding as we are going to get… at least for a while. I, for one, am okay with this. I mean, I get why Felicity is upset but I also think this could be resolved with an actual conversation.
- Now that Darhk is in jail I think the person in the grave that we keep getting flashes of is either Quentin or Laurel. Quentin is in my number one spot, I mean the guy did just give a compelling testimony. Who else was cringing wait for Darhk to randomly kill him with is powers? I was totally expecting him to drop dead after the hearing.
